Job summary

Hometown Grocers, Inc. is seeking a Produce Clerk I to support the Produce Department. You will provide friendly guest services, assist shoppers, handle item rotations, and help maintain a clean, well-stocked display of fresh fruits and vegetables.

The role is part-time with responsibilities including order placement for select items, daily log sheets, and following safety guidelines. Regular attendance and teamwork are essential in a fast-paced grocery environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service to guests.

• Answer the telephone with proper etiquette.
• Address guest concerns and escalate to the Produce Department Manager when needed.
• Stock and maintain product levels on the floor.
• Rotate stock using first-in, first-out methods.
• Follow display standards and keep the sales floor clean.
• Maintain rotation sheets and record daily temperatures and shrink.
• Order some produce items as needed.
• Attend to other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Job Title: Produce Clerk I

FLSA Status: Hourly

Reports To: Produce Department Manager

Responsible for working closely with all produce associates in an effort to ensure all company policies and procedures are being followed, department goals are being obtained, and associates' needs are being met.

Produce Associates provide a high standard of care to quality, nutritious fruits and vegetables to ensure they are fresh & delicious for the families within our communities.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides customer service to guests

• Assist guests with finding items they are looking for on or off the sales floor
• Takes orders and other special requests
• Answers the telephone and assists callers using proper phone etiquette
• Addresses guest concerns and resolves issues when a guest is not satisfied with the service or product received, if in need further assistance, bring concern to the Produce Department Manager

Stocking and maintaining product levels

• Fill all items on display
• Makes sure products are rotated, using first in first out method
• Follow display standards
• Makes sure the sales floor is clean and tidy; no messes or spills
• Maintaining Produce supplies (i.e. roll bags, twist ties, etc.)

Log Sheets

• Take temperatures of everything regularly
• Fill out rotation sheets daily
• Record shrink daily

Maintain Produce Cooler

• Rotation of items within the cooler, first in-first out method
• Keeping the cooler clean and organized at all times

Product Order

• Responsible for ordering some product (i.e. dips, spices, herbs, etc.)

Other duties as assigned.

Regular, timely attendance in compliance with the work schedule, and adequate notice to find a replacement for occasional absences.

• Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with customers and all personnel
• Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to handle a diverse crew in a highly stressful environment
• Complete understanding of all safety requirements and company safety policies
• Must possess the ability to apply on-the-job safety training to recognize and react to possible safety hazards on store premises. Also requires proper training and knowledge of the following equipment/procedures: slicers, proper lifting techniques, trash compactor, baler
• Knowledge of the retail food business, thorough knowledge of perishable department operations, merchandising skills, and must be able to make timely and effective decisions

WORK SCHEDULE

• The Produce Clerk is a part-time hourly position, scheduled 28 hours a week or less
• The shift to be worked will vary, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays
