Job summary

Reading Truck in Houston, TX seeks a Buyer to manage suppliers and materials from sourcing to receipt, ensuring availability to support production and implementing JIT/ VMI. You will handle quoting, negotiations, POs, and forecast-driven purchasing for direct and indirect materials.

Collaborate with operations, engineering, quality, and finance to optimize procurement, lead supplier performance reviews, and drive cost improvements across the supply base.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain or a related field strongly preferred.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a purchasing role.
• Experience with ERP/MRP systems and functions is required. JDE experience is a plus!
• Experience with MRO and indirect purchasing is preferred.
• Experience in the manufacturing industry.

Responsibilities

• Ensure material availability to meet production demand and support JIT, VMI and stock inventory based on production schedules and forecasts.
• Perform purchasing responsibilities such as material quoting, contract negotiations, purchase orders, and issues with receipts.
• Develop and review demand trends and forecasts to determine purchasing quantities and frequencies; interact with key suppliers to support schedules.
• Manage day to day operations of designated supply base, including communicating demand forecasts to suppliers.
• Drive continuous improvement of processes and participate in Lean events and cost-saving initiatives.
• Collaborate with Corporate Strategic Procurement to advance enterprise-wide sourcing programs and cost savings.
• Lead and support sourcing activities, and source new vendors when needed.
• Support new product development (NPD) and cost reduction projects.
