Job description

The Farmer’s Dog was born from a mission to change the landscape of pet health, providing dogs and their humans with honest, smart, and simple care. We’re starting by radically improving the $90 billion pet food industry, replacing bags of highly-processed pellets with a personalized subscription service that sends complete and balanced, freshly-made dog food directly to customers’ doors. Our ultimate goal is to create innovative, delightful and personalized experiences across all aspects of pet care, and we believe our direct-to-consumer business model, holistic approach to growth, and dynamic culture uniquely position us to shepherd this backwards industry into the future.

To date, The Farmer’s Dog has delivered over 1 billion meals nationwide and raised over $150M in funding to help us build a company as healthy as the dogs who are eating those meals. Join us as we continue to develop ways of bringing peace of mind to customers, health to their companions, and much-needed change to the way people feed and care for their pets.

What We Stand For and Where You’ll Come In

As the Procurement Operations Manager, you’ll be responsible for managing the internal processes and tooling that keep the procurement team operating efficiently across shared workstreams. You will play a critical role in supporting Stage 0 commercialization and new item onboarding, ensuring strong coordination, visibility, and execution across cross functional teams—while enabling Category Owners to engage earlier and own sourcing strategy.

You will partner closely with PD, FSQR, Manufacturing, Supply Chain Strategy, and other cross functional teams to ensure smooth execution of high impact initiatives. This role serves as the operational bridge across procurement and the broader organization, driving alignment, clarity, and operational rigor.

This position requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership and communication skills, as well as a highly analytical and organized mindset. You will help elevate how Procurement operates by introducing scalable processes, improving visibility, and enabling more data driven decision making. This role will also manage an analyst and reports to the Procurement Director.

One Team: We don’t think of ourselves as “Acquisition Marketers”, “Engineers”, “Data Analysts”, or “Product Managers”. Beyond denoting skill sets and areas of expertise, we don’t think departments matter. We’d rather align ourselves to the goals we’re working to achieve and make sure we have necessary subject matter expertise to drive meaningful impact.

We are skeptical about everything and precious about nothing: Ideas can and should come from anywhere, and we aren’t tied to our own. We proactively source input. We talk to our customers and leads regularly and are quick to change course if we know there’s a better or more impactful way to solve problems.

We consider the customer journey in all of our decisions: We know that no interaction exists in a silo and therefore understand how important every single one is. We ensure our strategy sets prospective and new customers up for success and drives long-term retention. We answer questions and address problems early and proactively. We understand the value of different channels, initiatives, and messages and know how to articulate impact and advocate for prioritization holistically.

We Execute For Impact: We don’t subscribe to “best practices” or “industry KPIs”. We’re uninterested in how we compare to “benchmarks”; instead we orient ourselves around being the best we can possibly be. Similarly, we don’t subscribe to rigid or classical expectations of roles – i.e. acquisition is hyper-focused on improving customer retention and experience.

We Are Focused and Work Without Assumption: We are not beholden to ideas. We have goals and believe everything beyond that is a series of hypotheses to validate. To that end, we seek to work in sequence and not in parallel. We constantly ask ourselves, “what’s the most important hypothesis I should be working on right now? How do I confirm or reject that hypothesis as fast as possible?”. We rarely have timelines/deadlines and are constantly taking in new information and adjusting our priorities accordingly. We don’t expect to be perfect the first time.

How You'll Make An Impact
Procurement Operations & Analytics
  • Build and maintain operational frameworks that improve how the procurement team collaborates, prioritizes work and delivers against goals.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and standardize repeatable processes, ensuring clarity and efficiency across initiatives.
  • Develop scalable systems and documentation practices that support transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a central coordinator for internal workflows, ensuring roles, responsibilities, and timelines are clearly defined and adhered to.
  • Manage and develop the Procurement Analyst, setting priorities and ensuring strong execution across key operational and analytical workstreams.
  • Oversee market and commodity tracking (e.g., proteins, packaging inputs, freight), ensuring timely, accurate insights are available to inform sourcing strategies and reforecasting.
  • Drive reporting and data visibility across procurement, including cost tracking, supplier performance and key risk indicators.
  • Translate data into actionable insights to support Category Owners and leadership in decision making.
New Products & Commercialization Support
  • Support procurement execution for Stage 0 commercialization and new product introductions by coordinating timelines, inputs and cross functional alignment.
  • Partner with Category Owners, who retain ownership of sourcing strategy, to ensure early engagement, clear requirements and alignment on ingredient sourcing, cost targets and timelines.
  • Help facilitate supplier identification, evaluation and onboarding in collaboration with Category Owners, ensuring alignment with broader sourcing strategies.
  • Drive visibility into risks, dependencies and readiness across stakeholders, ensuring issues are surfaced and addressed early.
  • Lead coordination of procurement workstreams for new coman setup, ensuring readiness across contracting, ingredient availability and documentation.
  • Act as a central point of coordination for cross functional partners, ensuring procurement related requirements and risks are proactively managed.
  • Establish and track timelines, dependencies and ownership within the procurement team to support smooth coman onboarding.
We're Excited About You Because
  • You have 5+ years of experience in Purchasing, Supply Chain or Manufacturing roles.
  • In depth knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies and tools.
  • You have excellent analytics skills and a proven track record of translating data driven insight into action and consumer facing impact.
  • You have clear, confident and persuasive verbal & written communication skills when working with a diverse group of cross stakeholders.
  • You have project management experience and the ability to drive initiatives from concept to implementation.
  • You are a strong problem‑solver and take a proactive approach to overcoming operational challenges.
  • You are adaptable and resilient in a dynamic and rapidly evolving business environment.
  • You’re experienced in leveraging vendor relationships, project management and conflict resolution.
  • You develop strategies and take them through implementation and have a strong understanding of economics and analysis of value engineering.
  • You’re willing to travel up to 25% of the time.
