Procurement Governance Manager

Role summary:

The Procurement Governance Manager position is designed for a professional who excels at elevating procurement practices that go beyond cost focus. This position is responsible for driving excellence in procurement processes and ensuring robust governance across all procurement activities. This role focuses on continuous process improvements, developing and maintaining procurement metrics, and tracking and reporting key performance indicators (KPIs). The successful candidate will collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance procurement efficiencies, to support compliance towards timely goods/services fulfillment, and the realization of financial goals.

This role reports directly to the Executive Director, Procurement.

Team summary:

The Global Procurement Team is responsible for acquiring goods and services essential to athenahealth’s operations while managing the entire procurement process—from strategic sourcing to payment. The team focuses on strategic supplier selection, contract negotiations, transactional and market data analysis, and continuous process improvement. Their mission is to drive efficiency, mitigate risks, and deliver measurable value and benefit for goods and services’ requirements across the enterprise.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide enablement services to category sourcing for both indirect and direct spend categories, by managing and tracking deal engagements to budget, savings (estimated and realized) to expenses.
  • Establish and maintain key procurement performance indicators (KPIs) to measure procurement efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance procurement strategic sourcing and operations, that support reduced costs, and increased efficiencies.
  • Savings Tracking and Monitoring: Track and monitor savings against budgeted engagements for goods and services, ensuring alignment with financial goals and established procurement targets.
  • Ensure procurement activities comply with internal policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with procurement team members to understand, track and provide updates given procurement initiatives and engagements for timely completion and execution.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Prepare and present regular reports on procurement performance, savings, and process improvements to procurement senior management.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks associated with procurement activities to ensure continuity and reliability.
  • Support data insights that enable the procurement team to develop and maintain strong and comprehensive awareness of category management relationships, development of robust savings pipelines, and to facilitate ongoing supplier quality, reliability, risks and cost-effectiveness assessments.
  • Utilize and leverage procurement tools to enhance transparency of key practices and/or processes which require continuous improvement.

Additional Job Responsibilities:

  • Support the formalization of supplier performance measurement reporting for key suppliers (material and/or high risk) to ensure adherence to costs and quality contractual obligations, SLAs and SOWs.
  • Prepare and present detailed procurement reports and analyses on demand and as per an established reporting cadence.

Expected Education & Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or Business required; Master degree in business preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, spend analysis, or supply chain management.
  • Proven financial analytical acumen with strong experience in data analysis and cost assessments and optimization.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in process improvement, procure-to-pay processes, contract management and administration.
  • Proficiency in procurement toolsets and source-to-pay technologies.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Project Management: Strong skills in managing projects, including planning, execution, and monitoring.
  • Attention to Detail: Keen eye for detail to ensure accuracy in tracking, reporting, and compliance.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills to address and resolve procurement-related issues.
  • Financial Acumen: Understanding of basic financial principles required to effectively track savings to approved budgets.
  • Process Improvement: Ability to proactively identify inefficiencies and implement process improvements.
  • Domain Knowledge: Strong understanding of procurement policies, and industry practices and standards.
  • Relationship Management: Skills in building and maintaining relationships across diverse groups and teams.
  • Experience in the healthcare vertical is advantageous.
