Job Title: Processing & Tooling Technician
Reports to: Tool Room Supervisor
Job Description: Perform Processing and Tooling activities as needed each day.
Job Responsibilities - Tool Room:
- Moving molds to and from areas by pushing and pulling them on a pallet jack and or mold cart. Uses various tools to lift, move, disassemble, and reassemble dies.
- Use sonic cleaning system to clean and care for molds.
- Handle various chemicals used in the mold cleaning process.
- Read and understand blueprints, part drawings, or instructions.
- Understand information to determine methods or sequences of mold maintenance operations.
- Diagnose and repair problems to tooling which create defects in plastic parts. Corrective action could include replacing cores, verifying heights, and fit.
- Work on various mold configurations; cold runners, hybrid cold runner w/hot manifold, hot sprues, various ejection systems, etc.
- Uses tools/equipment such as impact wrench, pry bars, crescent wrench, ratchet wrench, C-clamps, rechargeable drill, mallets, overhead cranes, belt, and table grinder, milling machine, manual / powered pallet jack, and compressed air. Operate tool and die equipment such as lathes, mills, or other for mold maintenance and repairs.
- Adhere to current and future company standards for conducting work and safety inspections of equipment. Work safely and in a manner consistent with all OSHA and internal safety policies and procedures.
- Troubleshoot, correct, and repair injection molds. The individual will respond to various equipment conditions, analyze the situation for root cause, and apply the appropriate skill to resolve the issue.
- Possess strong mechanical, some electrical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot and problem solve.
- Communicate both orally and written working in a team-based environment (be required to assist operations as needed.)
- Evaluate data/information adhering to Standards Basic knowledge using computer.
- Foster self-directing personal attributes including dependability, initiative, cooperation, innovation, persistence, and integrity.
- Maintain housekeeping.
Job Responsibilities - Processor:
- Performs the startup of molds without set up sheets, but only does this when necessary.
- Provides molded components in a timely manner to meet production schedules.
- Responsible for customer sample runs.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform advanced troubleshooting.
- Has a complete understanding of scientific molding and executes its use on a day-to-day basis.
- Responsible for tooling changes.
- Coordinate repairs with mold shop as needed.
- Proactively troubleshoots why cycle time is not within standard, and supplies solutions to achieve correct cycle.
- Proactively troubleshoots why cavitation is not within standard, and supplies solutions to achieve correct cavitation.
- Assists struggling co-workers, will fill in where needed without being asked.
- Displays personal accountability, recognizes problems, and responds accordingly.
- Always going above and beyond, stays above the line and works as a lift for fellow co-workers.
- Designated trainer for all new level 1 and 2 processor and continues to mentor after the initial training period.
- Exceptional time management skills.
- Demonstrates the ability to process in all materials on all molds with no assistance
- Creates process sheets.
- Troubleshoots machine issues, having the ability to identify root cause and determine corrective actions.
Education/ Previous Experience:
- Processor Level III
- Tool Room Experience
- 5+ years of work experience with plastic injection molds
- Basic shop math/computer skills
- Basic machine troubleshooting skills/ability to solve mechanical issues
- Willingness to assist other cross-functional groups based on needs
- Ability to work independently and be proactive
- Ability to analyze, interpret and report data based on machine performance.
- Minimum of high school diploma or GED preferred.
- Ability to learn, grow and adapt to changing business needs.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently required to lift and or move weights up to 35 lbs.
- Use of Personal protective equipment on the production floor (PPE)
- Physical requirements include but not limited to sitting, standing, climbing, walking, lifting, carrying, pulling, pushing, stooping, crouching, color determination, grasping, reaching, speaking, and listening.
