Job summary

The Botanist – Sterling, MA is seeking a Processing Technician II to support advanced cannabis processing operations, including harvesting, trimming, and material handling. This role ensures the consistent production of high-quality, compliant cannabis products through careful attention to detail and daily execution.

It also provides mentorship and day-to-day support to Processing Technicians, helping to promote efficiency, accuracy, and team development while offering a full benefits package

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent – required.
  • 2–4 years of relevant processing experience – strongly preferred.
  • 1 year of prior leadership experience – strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Advanced Processing Operations: perform drying, curing, trimming and material refinement with accuracy.
  • Data accuracy, compliance, and quality control: maintain documentation and batch tracking.
  • Mentorship and team support: train and guide Processing Technicians.
  • Facility and equipment maintenance: sanitation, routine checks, and reporting issues.
  • Performance and continuous improvement: contribute to SOP development and process efficiency.
  • Additional responsibilities: meet daily goals and support management.

About the Role: Processing Technician II

The Processing Technician II supports advanced cannabis processing operations, including harvesting, trimming, and material handling. This role ensures the consistent production of clean, high-quality, and safe cannabis products through careful attention to detail and daily execution. The Processing Technician II upholds accuracy, compliance, and quality standards across all stages of processing and demonstrates strong proficiency in product handling, data integrity, and quality control. Additionally, this role provides mentorship and day-to-day support to Processing Technicians, helping to promote consistency, efficiency, and team development.

How you’ll make a difference:

  • Advanced Processing Operations:
    • Perform complex processing tasks, including but not limited to drying, curing, trimming, and material refinement with accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Conduct inspections on cannabis materials to assess quality, consistency, and compliance with company standards.
    • Identify and troubleshoot operational ineffeciencies, offering process improvement recommendations.
    • Operate and calibrate specialized equipment used in processing with minimal supervision.
  • Data Accuracy, Compliance, and Quality Control:
    • Maintain accurate documentation and data tracking for product weight, batch tracking, and processing activities using company-approved software.
    • Ensure compliance with all company policies, SOPs, and regulatory requirements.
    • Assist with internal audits and compliance checks to uphold facility-wide adherence to quality and safety standards.
  • Mentorship and Team Support
    • Serve as a resource for Processing Technicians, assisting with on-the-job training and best practices.
    • Support workflow coordination to ensure production goals are met.
    • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to maintain efficiency and consistency
  • Facility and Equipment Maintenance
    • Oversee sanitation procedures for work areas, tools, and processing equipment to maintain compliance and operational effectiveness.
    • Conduct routine checks and basic maintenance of processing machinery, reporting any issues to management.
    • Ensure the safe disposal of waste materials in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Performance and Continuous Improvement
    • Contribute to the development and refinement of SOPs to enhance processing efficiency
    • Assist in identifying cost-saving measures and operational improvements
    • Participate in team meetings and provide feedback on workflow optimization
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Meet or ideally exceed daily goals, processing objectives, and KPIs as established by management.
    • Perform additional tasks and duties as assigned by management to meet the needs of the business.

Skills to be Successful:

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent –required
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of relevant experience –strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year prior leadership experience (e.g. lead role, team trainer, supervisor) -strongly preferred
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary focus and attention to detail.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.

Computers and Technology

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Experience using seed-to-sale tracking software – strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with data entry and compliance reporting systems

Manufacturing environment that requires extended time sitting, standing, walking, bending and reaching. The ability to carry up to 50lbs for up to 100ft may be required. Occasional extended and repetitive use of arms, hands and fingers to cut and manipulate small objects. Ability to work in occasionally humid and often pollinated environments.
