Job summary

Precision Medicine Group is seeking a Processing Technician I to handle receiving, inventory and processing of fresh patient and nonclinical samples for the Accucell line of cryopreserved cells in Frederick, MD. You will perform PBMC isolations, plasma/serum separations, cell thawing and counting, and generate sample aliquots, with support for related DNA/RNA work.

  • Must possess basic laboratory skills and be trained in aseptic technique.
  • Good attention to detail with strong documentation skills and ability to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and inventory all incoming fresh biological samples into the LIMS.
  • Perform cell isolations and separate whole blood into components; cryopreserve cells.
  • Prepare reagents and perform data collection sheets.
  • Count cells, thaw cells, and inspect samples.
  • Assist with RNA/DNA extractions and ELISAs as needed.

Job description

The Processing Technician I is responsible for receiving, inventorying and processing fresh patient samples and nonclinical samples for the Accucell line of cryopreserved cells. They will perform PBMC or cell subset isolations, plasma fractionations, serum separations, cell thawing, cell counting and generate whole blood aliquots. Additionally, the role may involve receiving, inventorying and processing nonclinical samples such as whole blood units and/or leukopaks for generation of Accucell lineage products. The role also provides general support for RNA/DNA extractions and assays such as ELISAs.

Essential Functions
  • Receive and inventory all incoming fresh biological samples into the electronic LIMS database
  • Perform cell isolations and/or separate whole blood and body fluids into various components
  • Perform cryopreservation of all isolated cells
  • Prepare all reagents used in the lab
  • Create and perform first key data collection sheets
  • Perform cell thawing and counting
  • Order and inspect lab supplies
  • Respond to freezer alarms in accordance with standard operating procedure
  • Carry out other duties/projects as assigned
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree (Biology, Chemistry or Life Sciences) or equivalent combination of education and experience
Other Required
  • Must possess basic laboratory skills and be trained in aseptic technique
  • Requires good attention to detail, excellent documentation skills and must work well in a group environment
  • Ability to lift and carry between 1-15 lbs.; lift up to 50 lbs. overhead with assistance; frequently required to sit, grasp, and use right/left finger dexterity; may be exposed to a cold freezer environment (Freezer temperatures range between -20ºC and -196ºC)
  • Must be able to read, write, speak fluently and comprehend the English language
Preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree (Biology, Chemistry or Life Sciences)
  • 1-2 years of relevant laboratory experience
  • Experience isolating PBMCs from whole blood or leukopheresis
  • Previous experience with a LIMS
  • Previous experience with a QMS
Compensation Range

$18 - $24.33 USD
