Job summary

Socket.dev seeks a Processing Technician I to support the Technical Operations Manager in a fast-paced animal vivarium. You will perform processing tasks on client-owned NHPs, including TB testing, monthly weights, health observations, and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities include following SOPs and safety policies, administering treatments via multiple routes, collecting samples, and monitoring hospitalized animals to ensure accurate observations and proper care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least 1 year of related experience required.
• ALAT certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Independently follow guidelines, policies, and SOPs in a fast-paced setting.
• Comply with regulatory, occupational health, and safety programs.
• Conduct daily health observations of NHPs.
• Administer NHP treatments via topical, oral, SQ, IV, IM, and ID routes.
• Perform TB tests on NHPs and read results as requested by clients.
• Perform O&P swab and fecal collections from NHPs.
• Monitor hospitalized NHPS and ensure proper processing prep and cleanup.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

JOB SUMMARY

The Processing Technician I will work under the direct supervision of the Technical Operations Manager. The ideal candidate will play a role within the processing team and will work in a fast-paced animal vivarium environment performing various processing task on client owned NHPs that include but not limited to TB test, monthly weights, health observations and other duties as assigned.

DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES

• Independently fast-paced understands relevant guidelines, policies, and SOPs.

• Complies with all regulatory guidelines, occupational health as well as health and safety programs, in accordance with company policies and procedures.

• Conduct daily health observations of NHPs

• Administration of NHP treatments via various routes that include topical, oral, SQ, IV, IM, ID.

• Perform TB test on NHPs per client request and conduct TB reads.

• Other duties as assigned.

• Perform O&P swab and fecal collection from NHPs

• Monitoring of hospitalized NHPS

• Processing preparation and clean up.

• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or equivalent required

• At least 1 years’ related experience required.

• ALAT Certification Preferred.

• Restrain animals during exams or procedures.

• Administer anesthesia to animals and monitor their responses.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Proof of measles vaccination or updated titers prior to initial contact with animals.

• Current results of TB testing or be tested prior to initial contact with animals. Annual tuberculosis screening is required of all employees.

• Employees may occasionally need to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.

• Ability to operate facility equipment.

• Visual acuity to handle potentially hazardous chemicals, cleaners, biologics (including, but not limited to direct handling of human byproducts and viruses) and/or sharps.

• Wear the appropriate personal protective equipment in each area as described by SOPs.

• Has the ability to withstand ambient temperatures which may exceed 90°F.

• Personnel must be able to carry out the essential functions of this position with reasonable accommodation if disabled.

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

• Potential exposure to disinfectants, chemicals, biologics, infectious agents (BSL1, BSL2), animal dander, and dust.

• Normal scientific laboratory conditions may work with hazardous materials and unpleasant odors.
