Job summary

MercyOne in Iowa is seeking a detail-oriented Sterile Processing Tech II to support patient care by cleaning, sterilizing, and distributing medical instruments and supplies. This role is full-time and evening-shift, based in Cedar Falls, IA.

You will work in a fast-paced hospital environment focused on infection control and patient safety. The position requires HS diploma or GED, 6 months' experience, and BLS certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 6 months of experience with surgical instruments or patient care support.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Decontamination & Sterilization: Clean and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment per AAMI standards.
• Instrument Preparation: Inspect, assemble, and wrap surgical trays and equipment for use.
• Inventory Management: Maintain supply levels and ensure timely distribution to patient care areas.
• Equipment Handling: Operate specialized medical sterilization equipment safely and efficiently.
• Patient Support (Cedar Falls location only): Transport patients and assist nursing staff with pre-operative procedures.

About The Role

As a Sterile Processing Tech II, you will be responsible for cleaning, sterilizing, and distributing medical instruments and supplies for patient care. You will play a vital role in infection control and patient safety by ensuring all equipment meets the highest industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

What You Need To Succeed

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize urgent requests.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 25 lbs; push/pull up to 150 lbs.
• Exposure to sterilization equipment, potential infectious materials, and a high-paced hospital setting.
• Must be comfortable working under pressure and following strict safety protocols.
