Job summary

VisionGift, a nonprofit dedicated to providing ocular tissue for transplant, research, and education, is seeking a Processing and Distribution Technician (PDT). This role is learned through extensive on‑the‑job training and offers hands‑on experience in tissue processing, evaluation, packaging, and shipping.

The PDT works in a fast‑paced environment with on‑call shifts, possible evenings, weekends, and holidays, and requires strong attention to detail and good communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in science preferred; commensurate experience acceptable.
• Very fine motor skills required for tissue processing.
• Experience with universal/standard precautions, sterilization, and autoclave operation.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office software.

Responsibilities

• Prepare ocular tissue for transplant.
• Evaluate tissue for suitability using microscopy (specular), slit lamp biomicroscopy, and OCT.
• Prepare all supplies and field for tissue processing.
• Distribute and package tissue.
• Manage shipments.
• Deliver tissue to local surgical facilities occasionally.
• Circulate for operator.
• Sterilize and maintain equipment.
• Support Lab Technician by maintaining supplies and cleanliness.

VisionGift is looking a Processing and Distribution Technician (PDT). This position is learned through extensive on-the-job training. This is a great opportunity for individuals who support donation, possess strong problem-solving skills, and have excellent attention to detail. This is a fast-paced role where mastery and ownership of important processes is gained quickly.The PDT is responsible for ensuring the daily tasks related to tissue processing and distribution are accomplished. This includes circulating, processing tissue, evaluating tissue, entering data, and packaging tissue, etc.

The PDT must be dedicated to the performance of eye banking and have strong communication skills. The schedule may vary depending on the needs of the department and could include evenings, weekends, and holidays. This position requires ‘on-call’ shifts.
