Job summary

Charlie’s Produce is seeking a Production Assistant Manager to supervise production and repack operations, train staff, and ensure accurate documentation of processes and performance. The role emphasizes food safety, QA, and adherence to HACCP/GMP standards in a fast-paced environment.

The candidate will assist the Production Manager, manage daily production goals, and uphold sanitation and safety protocols while coordinating with other departments on ongoing projects.

Qualifications

  • Must have high school education or equivalent and related experience.
  • Ability to read/write/record data and perform mathematical calculations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication to direct a diverse team.
  • Attendance reliability and flexible scheduling.
  • Follow Safety policies and report unsafe conditions.
  • Experience in food item preparation is preferred.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions.
  • Able to work in restricted spaces with variable temps and ventilation.
  • At least 2 years in Production and Processing leadership roles.
  • Intermediate Word and Excel skills for reporting and correspondence.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

Responsibilities

Job Description

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to supervising employees in Production and Repack, along with monitoring and recording the operation of the machinery/equipment and production process to attain daily production requirements. The Production Assistant Manager will effectively train and/or assist in training production and repack personnel to operate the machinery/equipment and understand production methods and quality standards. Adhere to existing corporate policies and procedures in the Production Department. The Processing Assistant Manager is also responsible for following all allergen procedures. Assist in maintaining accurate documentation related to employee performance, machinery/equipment operation, and production of finished products. Ensure audits and preventative maintenance schedules are performed to established procedures. Provide the Production Manager with objective feedback to affect objective evaluations. Meet or exceed daily production requirements per product specifications as set by production planning. Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities in a timely fashion as requested. Reports directly to the Production Manager. The Production Assistant Manager is responsible for Food Safety and Quality. The Production Assistant Manager is to cover in the absence of the Production Managers.

Qualifications

Essential Duties and Responsibities:

  • Train and monitor production staff by giving direction on daily tasks to meet production deadlines.
  • Report all food safety and quality issues immediately to management.
  • Requires hands-on capability to operate all machinery and equipment within the boundaries of available manuals, instruction, and personal expertise.
  • Able to work in cold a refrigerated environment of 34 -37 degrees.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs.
  • Ensure Production and repack crew is processing food according to HACPP and GMP regulations.
  • Pack items in designated containers or bags per customer order.
  • Order and plan for daily ingredients needed for recipes of food service items.
  • Oversee that crew is safely using equipment as necessary in preparation of food service items by providing training and appropriate PPE.
  • Operate all functions of position alone and without assistance if necessary. Fill in for the Production Manager when absent.
  • Oversee that production employees are accurately storing, labeling, and dating all incoming food product to ensure maximum shelf life and fixing any discrepancies.
  • Ensure all food storage areas are properly secured and locked.
  • Provide a clean and orderly work area for employees to ensure safety and ensure proper sanitation guidelines are followed.
  • Helping the Department Manager and the SQF Practitioner ensure that SQF standards are being met and the department is always audit ready.
  • Approving timecards and managing other wage/hour duties such as missed punch forms and sick time entry.
  • Collaborating with other departments on projects that add value to the organization and department.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • All employees are responsible for food safety and are expected to notify the appropriate manager, supervisor, or key personnel if they witness any compromise to food safety or quality.

Desired Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school education or up to one year of related experience or training; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read/write/record data and perform mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to direct a diverse group of people with excellent written or oral communication.
  • Attendance is critical; employee must be dependable to report to work on time and work a flexible schedule.
  • Required to follow “Safety policy” and report employee accidents or unsafe work conditions to Production Manager.
  • Must have working knowledge and experience in the preparation of food items.
  • Ability to work under more than average stressful conditions.
  • Ability to perform work in limited physical space with variable ventilation, smoke and extreme temperatures.
  • At least 2 years of Production and Processing leadership experience
  • Intermediate word and excel skills for correspondence and reporting duties
  • Excellent organizational skills
