Job summary

CRB is seeking a Process Utilities Engineer Intern for Summer 2027 to support the design and optimization of utility systems for life sciences and food & beverage projects. You will work under a mentor on real-world assignments, learning from industry leaders and gaining hands-on experience in process utilities engineering.

The internship emphasizes collaboration, problem-solving, and exposure to heat transfer, piping, and distribution systems within a structured CRB program.

Qualifications

• Working toward engineering degree with interest in utilities and process systems.
• Familiarity with CAD, process modeling and calculations software preferred.
• Understanding of industry standards related to AEC utilities engineering.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer critical utility equipment and distribution systems for manufacturing.
• Develop heat transfer and pressure drop calculations for projects.
• Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams including vendors and clients.
• Support development of conceptual designs under project mentorship.

How will I contribute?

As a Process Utilities Engineer Intern, you will work under the direction of an assigned mentor to develop and implement project deliverables. The focus will be on the design and engineering of critical utility equipment and distribution (or collection) systems along with the supporting facility infrastructure required to support manufacturing operations. Typical tasks include execution of engineering calculations including heat transfer and hydraulic pressure drop calculations.

  • User Requirements Specifications
  • Equipment List
  • Equipment General Arrangements
  • Equipment Datasheets
  • Utility Summary
  • Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams
• Assisting with development of conceptual designs and coordinating with the design team under direction of the project team lead. Systems Designed include:
  • Purified Water Generation, Storage and Distribution
  • Clean Steam Generation and Distribution
  • Compressed Air and Process Gas Generation and Distribution
  • Biological and Process Waste Collection, Inactivation and Neutralization
  • Clean in Place Systems
  • Bulk Chemical Storage and Distribution
  • Bulk Cryogenic Liquid Storage and Distribution
• Coordinating with multiple disciplines and other internal and external team members (e.g., vendors, clients, and contractors).

Preferred Qualifications

• Working towards Fundamental of Engineering Exam registration or completion preferred
• Familiarity with Engineering Software Application including computer aided drafting, process modeling and calculations programs
• Familiarity with industry-specific regulations and standards within the AEC industry
• Prior internship or co-op experience in Mechanical Engineering, Process Utilities Engineering or related field
