Job summary

Western Industries Plastic Products in Winfield, KS is seeking a Process Technician to set up, monitor and adjust blow molding machines to produce high-quality plastic parts in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

You will follow work orders, calibrate machines, load materials, troubleshoot issues, and ensure safety standards, quality requirements and efficient cycle times across shifts. Forklift operation is required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical schooling preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of blow mold process, machine operation, and programming with calibration ability.
  • Experience with mechanical systems (hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical and control systems).
  • Advanced troubleshooting to identify and resolve product and process issues.

Responsibilities

  • Set up blow molding machines per work orders and production schedules.
  • Clean and prepare blow mold machines for new product runs and verify settings.
  • Calibrate programmers and zero out machines to ensure accuracy.
  • Change or reset molds during the setup process.
  • Identify raw material requirements and coordinate with departments to load material.
  • Monitor material levels and adjust as needed across shifts.
  • Operate a forklift to transport materials for production runs.
  • Troubleshoot production issues using root cause analysis and adjust equipment.
  • Monitor cycle times, product weight, and regrind percentages.
  • Perform shift-change checks and maintain safety practices.

Summary of Job Duties

The Process Technician is responsible for setting up, monitoring, and adjusting blow molding machines to produce high-quality plastic products according to specifications. The position ensures production runs meet customer requirements, safety standards, and company performance goals.

  • Follow work order instructions and production schedules.
  • Properly clean and prepare blow mold machines for new product runs, including loading programming and verifying settings when machine or tooling adjustments are conducted.
  • Calibrate programmer and “zero out” the machine to ensure accurate machine performance and measurements.
  • During the set-up process, will change or reset the mold.
  • Identify raw material requirements and coordinate with appropriate departments to load material.
  • Check material levels (color, regrind, and resin) throughout the shift, at each machine, against the work order; adjusting as needed.
  • Operate a forklift to transport and maintain appropriate material levels for shift production runs.
  • Troubleshoot production issues using root cause analysis and make necessary advanced machine and tooling adjustments to maintain production while meeting quality specifications.
  • Monitor and maintain cycle times, product weight, and regrind percentages.
  • Clear grinders, fill heads, and perform shift-change checks.
Work Environment

This job will be performed in production and warehouse buildings, requiring exposure to varying weather conditions and operating in a manufacturing environment that is non-climate controlled. Moderate to loud noise levels that require associates to wear hearing protection. This position may require work above or below ground level and in confined spaces. This position will routinely work on and around industrial equipment and systems including, blow molding machinery, CNC machinery, motors, motor control centers, emergency generators, water coolers, air compressors, grinders, hand tools, hydraulics, and pneumatics.

Physical Demands

Standing, walking, bending, stooping, grip/grasping, twisting, reaching above the head, climbing stairs and ladders, lifting and carrying up to 80 lbs. Ability to use tools and other industrial equipment. Ability to wear all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

QualificationsRequired Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics and other instructions.
  • Ability to use small hand tools, power tools and other basic industrial equipment safely & effectively.
  • Forklift certification and experience required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work in non-climate controlled environment.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical schooling preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of blow mold process, machine operation, and programming with ability to calibrate machines, review specifications, and verify conformance.
  • Experience in mechanical systems (hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical and control systems).
  • Advanced troubleshooting capabilities to identify and resolve product and process issues.
Work Authorization/ Security Clearance
