Job summary

Sonoco Products Company in Chatham, NY is seeking a Process Technician to start up molding lines, inspect equipment, and support maintenance. You will maintain a clean production area, document processes, and work with cross‑functional teams to meet product specifications.

The role requires basic molding experience, the ability to read drawings, and a willingness to operate and learn hydraulic/electrical systems. Strong safety adherence is expected in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1-year hands‑on injection molding processing experience.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Able to set up molds and understand material handling practices and equipment.
• Familiarity with overhead cranes, forklifts, and other mold handling equipment is helpful but not necessary.

Responsibilities

• Start up machines to a standard process with documentation and meet key process deliverables.
• Inspect molds and machines for wear, damage, or defects and troubleshoot with maintenance or tooling when issues arise.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the production area and support daily team maintenance tasks to maximize equipment life.
• Collaborate with maintenance, material handling, inspectors and quality control to ensure product specs and equipment performance.
• Ensure accurate documentation and clear data communication across shifts and departments.
• Follow all safety protocols and company policies.

Position: Process Technician

Location: Chatham, NY

Hourly pay rate: $30.56-$34.01( depending on experience)

Shift - alternating swing shift or straight 3rd

What you'll be doing

• Able to start up machines to a standard process with documentation and meet key process deliverables.

• Inspect molds and machines for wear, damage, or defects and do basic troubleshooting before reporting issues to maintenance or tooling departments.

• Maintain cleanliness and organization of production environment and support daily team maintenance tasks to ensure that molds and machines run to the best of their ability for their entire life cycle.

• Collaborate with maintenance groups, material handling, inspector packers and quality control to ensure product specifications are met and equipment is performing as intended.
• responsible foraccurateand thorough documentation and data communication to leverage learnings and success across shifts and to other departments.

• Follow all safety protocols and company policies.

We would love to hear from you if:

• RJG, Paulson, or other formal injection molding training is a plus, hands on plastic processing experience is a must.
• Able to set up molds and understand material handling practices and equipment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and capable of learning different aspects of functions of hydraulic or electrical circuits, tool design, and robot logic programming.
• Ability to read technical drawings and setup sheets.
• Familiarity with overhead cranes, forklifts, and other mold handling equipment is helpful but not necessary.
• Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a cross‑functional team in a fast‑paced environment.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and move heavy equipment (up to 50lbs or more with assistance).
• Standing, bending, and walking for extended periods.
• Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
• Ability to run a shift to indefinite periods of time
