Job summary

Vitro in Elkin, NC, is seeking an experienced Process Technician to apply advanced technical skills to improve production line processes with simplification for Operators and Leads.

The role partners with Engineering and production supervision to train operators in process skills and drive throughput improvements.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance to resolve day-to-day production problems to maximize efficiency and reduce downtime.
• Investigate process development problems, propose solutions, and implement approved improvements.
• Write job orders to correct malfunctions or improve processes and own improvement opportunities.
• Support training activities for employees on modified equipment within accountable areas.
• Work with Engineering to test new products/equipment and establish evaluation parameters.
• May order spare parts, manage inventory levels, and maintain parts supplies for accountability areas.
• Specify or design production tooling and establish standards for process variables.
• Participate in blueprint reviews to ensure equipment readiness for production.
• Should be willing to work off-hours and take on other team-supported tasks as needed.

Overview

Vitro, the #1 manufacturer and distributor of automotive glass in North America, is looking for an experienced Process Technician to join the team in utilizing advanced technical skills and principles to improve production line processes with a goal of simplification for our Operators and Leads. This person will partner with our other Engineering team members, along the side of the production supervisor, and they will train operators on the technical skills of the process to improve the production throughput. Automation engineers, process engineers, quality engineers, and technicians work together to create a way to achieve better results. This position will be located at our fabricating plant in Elkin, NC.

Responsibilities

1. Provide technical assistance with Production in resolving day-to-day production problems involving production equipment, usually within a specified area (e.g., CE, HE, VA1, VA3, etc.), to maximize efficiency, productivity, and reduce equipment downtime.
2. Investigate process development problems, propose solutions, communicate and gather input from others, and implement approved solutions to support continuous improvement goals and ensure the best solutions are applied.
3. Write job orders to correct malfunctions or improve processes, both in the short and long-term range, to take ownership of improvement opportunities.
4. Support training activities and provide training as needed to employees in the use of new modified equipment within specific areas of accountability, to ensure a qualified workforce.
5. Work with Engineering to determine new products and equipment to be tested and help to establish the parameters for evaluating new products and equipment (including assisting in the actual testing), to ensure a comprehensive assessment of new products and equipment before mass production.
6. May order spare parts and supplies, etc., as necessary, determine adequate stock levels, and write store additions and reductions to maintain a proper inventory of parts and supplies used in specific areas of accountability.
7. May specify, design, or order production tooling or related items and assist in determining standards for key process variables to ensure tools, measurements, and processes are in place to maintain targets for quality and productivity.
8. Participates in all blueprint reviews in specified areas of accountability to ensure production readiness of equipment.
9. Will be required to work off-hours as needed to support the line. May be asked to complete other tasks not mentioned here in order to support the good of the team and business tasks.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in production or process experience; automotive experience is a plus; automotive glass experience is required.
