Job summary

Ecovyst Inc. is seeking a Process Technician in Baytown, TX to ensure safe, efficient operation of plant equipment in a rotating shift environment.

You will contribute to reliability, environmental responsibility, and process safety while supporting production and maintenance activities. Ideal candidates bring 7–10+ years of sulfuric acid operations experience, a GED with a Process Technology certificate, and TWIC eligibility, along with strong communication and computer skills.

Qualifications

  • GED or high school diploma with a 1-year Process Technology certificate and 7–10+ years of sulfuric acid operations.
  • TWIC eligibility and basic computer skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties in strict adherence to safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Handle hazardous chemicals and waste per laws and regulations.
  • Monitor unit condition and troubleshoot out-of-range parameters.
  • Maintain shift logs using paper or electronic systems (e.g., SAP/iProcess).
  • Inspect safety equipment and CO2 showers as applicable.
  • Conduct chemical tests to verify product specifications with standard equipment.
  • Inspect unit equipment to locate malfunctions and complete maintenance work orders (SAP).
  • Prepare equipment for maintenance following Lock Out Tag Out procedures.
  • Ensure SOPs/COPs/EOPs and best operating practices are followed.
  • Review management of changes, incident reports, and operating instructions.
  • Collaborate with contractors/engineers on unit projects, audits, and HAZOPS as needed.
  • Monitor environmental, gas leaks, and housekeeping within the unit.
  • Perform other duties/projects as assigned.

Position Overview

The Process Technician forEcoservices in Baytown, TX is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all plant equipment while adhering to established procedures and maintaining a strong commitment to safety and environmental responsibility. This is a hands-on role in a rotating shift environment with opportunities for advancement, to also fill in for the Production Manager in their absence.

What you will be doing:

  • Perform all job duties in strict adherence to safety protocols, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Handle hazardous chemicals and waste in full compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations
  • Monitors condition of unit and troubleshoots when parameters are found to be out of normal operating range
  • Maintais log of gauge readings and shift production using either paper or electronic logs (iProcess)
  • Inspects fire extinguishers, respiratory protections equipment, and safety showers
  • Perform chemical tests on product sample to ensure conformance with specifications, using standard test equipment, materials, and procedure
  • Inspect equipment in unit to determine location and nature of malfunction, such as leaks, breakage, and faulty valves. Complete electronic work orders (SAP) for maintenance repairs
  • Prepare equipment for maintenance by following Lock out Tag out procedures
  • Ensure SOPs / COPs / EOPs and good operating practices accurate and followed
  • Review all management of changes, accident/incident reports, shift log and operating instructions (both unit and Treatment Services)
  • Works with contractors and engineers in the unit; be involved in the projects, HAZOPS, Audits, (etc.) as needed
  • Inspect and monitor environmental, gas leaks and housekeeping within the unit
  • Perform any other duties/projects as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of 7-10+ years of operational/process technology experience as a sulfuric acid operator, and prior sulfuric acid loading experience is preferred: and 1-year Process Technology certificate from a college or technical school, with the above experience
  • Must have the ability to obtain Transportation Worker’s Identification Credentials (TWIC)
  • Basic computer skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to wear appropriate PPE and respiratory protection including supplied air
  • Able to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, unusual or dangerous situations or with situations in which speed and sustained attention are required aspects of the job
