Job summary

D&W Fine Pack in Fort Wayne, IN, is looking for an Extrusion Technician to support the extrusion department with troubleshooting, training, and continuous improvement projects focused on scrap and downtime. You will help develop the skills of Team Leads and Operators and assist with process changes.

The role emphasizes safety, GMP adherence, and strong communication as you work in a high-heat, noisy environment, contributing to quality and productivity while following SQF and GMP practices.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate).
• Must be able to read, write and speak English.
• Willingness to follow verbal and written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot daily extrusion process issues and equipment reliability.
• Overhaul extruders and related equipment as scheduled to meet quality standards.
• Train and support Production during changeovers and new material testing.
• Lead continuous improvement events to reduce scrap and downtime.
• Advise and lead line/equipment maintenance and process improvements.

POSITION SUMMARYThe purpose of this position is to support the Extrusion department with process troubleshooting, developing the skill sets of the Team Leads and Operators, improve training procedures, and help with continuous improvement projects focused on scrap and downtime.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIESSafetyFollows plant safety procedures and guidelinesKnow emergency procedures and what to do in the event of power outages, machine failures, workplace injuries, etc.Wears and utilizes personal protective equipment (PPE) as requiredUnderstand and identifies Lock-out/Tag-out proceduresInforms Supervisor of safety issues; Reports any workplace injury or incident immediatelyTasksSupport company Food Safety efforts through commitment and compliance to SQF standard practices and policies.Follow plant quality practices including Good Manufacturing Practices, or GMP’sTroubleshoot daily process issues in ExtrusionOverhaul Extruders and equipment as required by schedule and process to conform to quality standardTrain and Support Production for Production change overConduct and assist testing for new material and/or processImprove the overall skill set of the Team Leads and Operators in Extrusion-Repro-Compound through detailed trainingParticipate/Lead in Continuous Improvement Events/Teams in Extrusion with a focus on improving quality/output and reducing scrap and downtimeAdvice/Lead line/equipment maintenance and improvement including process/operation improvementQUALIFICATIONSWillingness to work and follow verbal/written instructionsGood Written and Verbal Communication SkillsMust be able to read, write and speak EnglishHigh School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate)WORK ENVIRONMENTWhile performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently exposed to extreme heat, moving mechanical parts and products with sharp edges.
