Job Description

As a Process Safety Engineer, you will work closely with Manufacturing plants, Technology, Global Engineering, and Regional Quality and EHS functions in the VWTS business. You will identify process safety risks within chemical manufacturing operations and develop mitigation strategies and programs.

In this role, you will provide technical guidance, training, and support to plant staff and operators on process chemistry and safety, ensuring adherence to operational parameters and safety limits. You will lead onsite support for start-up trials, participate in root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Global Process Chemistry team to address process safety in projects and ensure proper operating procedures at all reaction and blending plants.
  • Maintain global communication to utilize resources across regions and meet organizational needs including Technology, Manufacturing, Sourcing, and Supply Chain.
  • Represent Global Process Chemistry in meetings and projects to ensure process safety requirements are met regionally and globally.
  • Support cost reduction initiatives by investigating operational strategies.
  • Assist tolling technology transfer by providing SOPs, conducting audits, and supporting scale-up trials for safety and quality.
  • Collaborate with engineering during design and commissioning of new projects at Veolia CMS plants.
  • Assemble process safety information for hazard analyses.
  • Implement company standards for hazardous processes and maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, EU, and local regulations.
  • Drive continuous improvement using Digitization and Lean Six Sigma methodologies.

Qualifications:

Core Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in science, preferably Chemical Engineering, Organic or Polymer Chemistry; Master's preferred.
  • 5-10 years of experience with OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM).
  • Understanding of chemical plant processes and safety.
  • Experience in employee Process Safety training.
  • Ability to foster a safety compliance culture.
  • Knowledge of risks in blend plants, especially with flammable chemicals and acids.
  • Experience with PHA and PRA.
  • Ability to travel 30%-50%.

Other Useful Skills and Experience:

  • Over 2 years of chemical industry experience.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 30, OSHA, EPA, and Seveso standards.
  • Experience with WinCC and SAP is helpful.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma.
