Job summary

ABB Inc. is seeking a Process Quality Specialist to improve customer satisfaction by resolving complaints, analyzing defects, and delivering actionable quality improvements across PDU, STS, and UPS products for data centers.

You will lead audits, develop quality plans, monitor yield, and work with cross-functional teams on FAT and UL/CSA/ISO certifications in a fast-paced, onsite Richmond environment.

Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor degree in engineering and at least 5 years of related experience.
  • Proficiency with quality tools such as FMEA, 7 QC tools, 5S, 5Why, Kaizen, Poka-Yoke, SPC, DMAIC, and 8D Root Cause.
  • Familiarity with UL1561, NEMA ST-20, IEEE C57.12.01/91, DOE 2016, UL9540/1008S, UL1778, UL891 and CSA C22.2 standards.

Responsibilities

  • Drive and perform product audits.
  • Develop and maintain Quality Plans, Control Plans, and inspection checklists with CTQ parameters and Q-gates.
  • Monitor First Pass Yield and implement improvements for quality and efficiency.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams during audits, FATs, and certifications (UL, CSA, ISO).
  • Perform COPQ analyses to identify cost-saving opportunities and map processes for automation.

The work model for the role is: Onsite, Richmond, VA

Your role and responsibilities:

As a Process Quality Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing customer satisfaction by resolving complaints, analyzing defects, and providing actionable solutions. You will focus on ensuring the quality of Power Distribution Units (PDU), Static Transfer Switches (STS), and Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) for data centers and critical power applications. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to ABB's commitment to delivering high-quality products and services in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Drive and perform product audit
  • Develop and maintain Quality Plans, Control Plans, and inspection checklists, while deriving Critical to Quality (CTQ) parameters and establishing Q-gates.
  • Monitor and analyze First Pass Yield metrics, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing strategies to enhance product quality and production efficiency.
  • Proactively monitor customer complaints, conducting thorough analyses to determine root causes, and implementing corrective actions; Coordinate with Cross-Functional Teams (CFTs) during customer audits, Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), and certification audits (UL, CSA, ISO), ensuring all requirements are met and issues are promptly addressed.
  • Perform COPQ analyses to identify cost‑saving opportunities, implementing initiatives that reduce defects, improve efficiency, and enhance overall profitability; Mapping current manufacturing processes and identify areas for improvement through automation.
Qualifications for the role:
  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical/Industrial/Electrical Engineering or related field PLUS minimum 5 years of experience
  • Proficient in quality tools like FMEA, 7 QC tools, 5S, 5Why, Kaizen, Poka-Yoke, SPC, DMAIC & 8D Root cause analysis
  • Familiar with key industry standards such as UL1561, NEMA ST-20, IEEE C57.12.01, IEEE C57.12.91, DOE 2016, UL9540, UL1008S, UL1778, UL891 and CSA C22.2, which enhances compliance and product reliability.
  • Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies is highly desirable.
  • Candidates must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
