Job description

At Tandem PV, we are a team of people who are passionate about building a more sustainable world by bringing cost effective solar panels onto the market. We’re scaling metal-halide perovskite solar technology to make best-in-class mechanically stacked tandem modules. We have built efficient, durable cells, monolithic multi-cell submodules, and packaged modules with our scalable, low-cost process. Our next focus is expanding our team to bring our product to market at scale.

About the Role

Tandem PV is seeking a hands‑on, analytically minded Process & Quality Engineering Technician to support our pilot manufacturing line, process monitoring systems, and quality control activities.

This position combines equipment instrumentation, data analysis, technical troubleshooting, and quality inspection. Approximately 50–75% of the role will involve working directly on the pilot line, installing and maintaining sensors, monitoring process performance, and helping identify and resolve equipment or process issues.

The ideal candidate is technically curious, comfortable working with both hardware and software, and capable of independently investigating problems and developing potential solutions. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands‑on technical work while expanding their experience with manufacturing systems, data analysis, and emerging AI-enabled troubleshooting tools.

Key Responsibilities

Pilot Line Instrumentation & Process Monitoring

  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot sensors and monitoring equipment on the pilot manufacturing line.
  • Support the collection, organization, and validation of process and equipment performance data.
  • Monitor sensor outputs and process trends to identify abnormalities, inconsistencies, or potential equipment issues.
  • Work closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to improve process visibility, equipment reliability, and data collection capabilities.
  • Assist with implementing and maintaining monitoring systems as the pilot line evolves.

Data Analysis & Technical Troubleshooting

  • Review process data to determine whether measurements and equipment outputs are accurate, consistent, and within expected operating parameters.
  • Investigate unexpected results, identify potential root causes, and develop hypotheses for further evaluation.
  • Utilize AI-enabled tools, software applications, and other analytical resources to support troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Recommend corrective actions and implement approved improvements in collaboration with engineering.
  • Document findings, troubleshooting activities, and recommended solutions.

Technical Systems & Software Support

  • Support the setup, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of technical software and systems used in engineering and manufacturing operations.
  • Assist with system administration, troubleshooting, and related technical activities.
  • Configure computers and laptops, install software, and support system updates and connectivity requirements.
  • Troubleshoot basic hardware, software, and system integration issues.
  • Coordinate with engineering and external technical support providers as needed.

Quality Control & Incoming Inspection

  • Support incoming material inspection and quality control activities, including glass and other critical manufacturing materials.
  • Collect, document, and analyze incoming material quality metrics.
  • Identify material defects, inconsistencies, and potential quality concerns.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining inspection procedures, quality records, and performance tracking.
  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to investigate quality issues and support corrective actions.

Metrology & Continuous Improvement

  • Assist with the implementation and operation of additional quality and metrology tools as capabilities expand.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, measurement records, and process data.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on process consistency, data accuracy, quality, and manufacturing efficiency.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Electronics, Manufacturing Technology, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent hands‑on technical experience.
