Job summary

Suncor Energy Inc. is seeking a refinery operator at the Commerce City refinery in the Denver metro area. You will learn operations within a specified unit and work to maintain safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible processes.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver's license, strong mechanical aptitude, and experience with basic hand and power tools. Relocation support may be provided for eligible candidates.

Job description

In this role at our Commerce City Refinery (Denver Metro Area), you will learn the operating responsibilities and layout within a specified unit of our refinery. Operators refine crude oil into gasoline, distillates (jet fuels), asphalt, and LPG's (think of the propane you use for your favourite griddle for BBQs). You will be responsible for maintaining the safe and reliable operation of processes to optimize production in an environmentally responsible manner.

Minimum Requirements:

• A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
• A valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to Suncor
• Strong Mechanical aptitude
• Experience with basic hand and power tools
• Experience and knowledge of basic computer programs; Word/Excel/Outlook
• Previous experience in an industrial work environment is a plus
• A post‑secondary training course or diploma in a related field is considered an asset
• Must be legally authorized to work in the USA for the duration of your employment

Location and Key Details:

The hiring process for this position may take several months but the posting is closing October 3, 2026; Start date for these roles will be Monday, January 11, 2027. You will work out of our Commerce City refinery, located at 5801 Brighton Blvd. Relocation support will be provided for candidates with previous experience living outside of driving distance to the refinery. The shift schedule is a rotating 12-hour shift, including nights, holidays, weekends (MDOPY), and overtime as needed. You will be required to perform some heavy lifting as well as use ladders and work on elevated work platform such as scaffolds and towers. Ability to perform in a variety of different environments (heat/cold/rain/snow) as well as within confined spaces in a dynamic, indoor and outdoor (all-weather) industrial facility.

Hourly Rate and Compensation Details:

• $37.17 / hour to start; once qualified in the first area, the rate increases to $52.60 / hour (obtainable in approximately 3 to 5 months); with annual increases
