Job description

  • This position is responsible for operating a front-end loader to transport raw sugar or other materials, as well as operating sugar processing machinery associated with functions in Raw Sugar and the Char House.
  • Hourly rate: $22.67 - $25.04
FUNCTIONS
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions
  • Knows, and observes all Standard Operating Procedures, safety procedures and rules, environmental practices and GMP guidelines.
  • Responsible for operating and maintaining sugar processing and peripheral equipment in the assigned area according to defined Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Responsible for troubleshooting all problems that occur on sugar processing and peripheral equipment and requesting mechanical or electrical assistance when needed to the shift team lead or shift operations manager.
  • Responsible for cleaning, inspection and lubrication on all machinery within their scope of authority.
  • Responsible for process quality and Safe Quality Food (SQF) program. Performs quality checks at prescribed intervals to ensure the best quality products are being produced. Initiate documentation and provide signature to verify compliance with all required quality & SQF checks for the assigned area.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness/Five S of the area assigned.
  • Perform duties with minimum supervision after training.
  • Employee will work with a team of operators on three different workstations.
  • Employee will recover timely samples and take them to the lab for analysis.
  • Employee will monitor pieces of equipment for which they are primarily responsible.
  • Employee will aid in cleaning of these areas and subject to any tasks as needed by the shift operations manager.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Enters work orders through Maximo work order data base
  • Enters safety reports through refinery safety database
  • Completes all necessary documentation, logs and data sheets

  • Associate Degree or equivalent from two-year technical school
Experience

The following are the basic qualifications:

  • Some technical school
  • One year production experience in food or chemical industry
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands)
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add subtract multiple and divide without a calculator. Ability to calculate proportions, decimals, fractions, ratios, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the associate is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The associate is frequently required to reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The associate is occasionally required to climb or balance. The associate must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions
  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The associate is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The associate will occasionally work with chemicals, steam related processes, hot liquids/water and will work around electrical equipment. The noise level in the work environment is loud.
