Job summary

Lithium Americas is seeking a Process Maintenance Mechanic to join the Maintenance Team at the Thacker Pass site in Nevada. You will maintain and repair critical mechanical equipment to ensure safe, reliable lithium carbonate production, supporting plant availability and efficiency.

The role requires performing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance, reading mechanical drawings, and working under MSHA/OSHA standards. A strong safety mindset and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2–5 years of mechanical maintenance experience in mining, chemical manufacturing, or heavy industrial processing environments.
  • Strong knowledge of rotating equipment and industrial mechanical systems.
  • Experience performing preventive and corrective maintenance on process plant equipment.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and basic measuring instruments.
  • Welding and/or fabrication experience is a plus.
  • Ability to align pumps and motors; read mechanical drawings and schematics.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on mechanical processing equipment including crushers, screens, conveyors, feeders, pumps, gearboxes, thickeners, and related systems.
  • Maintain and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems and rotating equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical failures, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings and maintenance manuals; document work performed.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with operations and other teams to support production schedules.

In this role, you will be responsible for safe, reliable, and continuous lithium carbonate manufacturing operations by maintaining and repairing critical mechanical equipment. This role directly impacts plant availability, production efficiency, and safety by executing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance in compliance with company standards. Occasional travel other LAC offices, project sites, or vendor locations may be required.Key ResponsibilitiesPerforms all maintenance activities with a strong safety-first mindset, ensuring strict compliance with MSHA and OSHA regulations along with site specific safety standards; actively identifies and mitigates observed hazards, conducts regular safety inspections of assigned areas, and fosters a culture where safe work practices and personal accountability are non-negotiable.
