Job summary

Lithium Americas is seeking an Electrical & Instrumentation Technician to join the Maintenance Team at Thacker Pass, NV. You’ll ensure safe, reliable operation of electrical power, control, and instrumentation systems supporting plant operations.

Responsibilities include preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and improvements to motors, MCCs, switchgear, PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and SCADA, while following MSHA/OSHA and site safety standards.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of electrical/instrumentation experience in mining or heavy industry.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, one-line diagrams and wiring diagrams.
  • Familiarity with MSHA/OSHA regulations and industrial safety standards.
  • Able to perform lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and verify zero-energy states.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on electrical power, control, and instrumentation systems.
  • Diagnose and repair failures in motors, MCCs, switchgear, transformers, PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and SCADA systems.
  • Read and interpret schematics and wiring diagrams to safely execute work.
  • Coordinate with operations and planners to minimize downtime and support production.

In this role, you will be responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of electrical power, control, and instrumentation systems that support our operations. This role plays a critical part in minimizing downtime, maintaining regulatory compliance, and enabling consistent production by proactively maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving site electrical and control systems. Occasional travel to other LAC offices, project sites, or vendor locations may be required.Key ResponsibilitiesPerforms all maintenance activities with a strong safety-first mindset, ensuring strict compliance with MSHA and OSHA regulations along with site specific safety standards; actively identifies and mitigates observed hazards, conducts regular safety inspections of assigned areas, and fosters a culture where safe work practices and personal accountability are non-negotiable. Champions site safety standards and promote open communication within group.Install, inspect, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair low-, medium-, and high-voltage electrical power systems, control systems, and instrumentation supporting operations and fixed and mobile plant equipmentDiagnoses and resolves failures in motors, MCCs, switchgear, transformers, power distribution systems, PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, SCADA systems, and associated instrumentationPerform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities in accordance with CMMS schedules, including loop checks, instrument testing, thermography, vibration analysis, insulation testing, and system commissioningRead, interpret, and apply electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, control logic, and technical documentation to safely execute workSupporting electrical installations, control system upgrades, automation improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance reliability and operational efficiencyExecute work in compliance with MSHA/OSHA regulations, site safety standards, electrical codes, and company proceduresPerform lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and verify zero-energy states prior to work executionParticipate in job safety analyses (JSAs) and pre-task risk assessmentsMaintain housekeeping standards in electrical rooms and work areasAccurately document work performed, findings, and corrective actions in maintenance management systemsCoordinate work activities with operations, planners, supervisors, and other maintenance trades to minimize downtime and support production continuityProvide technical support during equipment breakdowns and production interruptionsAssist with training, mentoring, and technical guidance for junior technicians as requiredBuilds and maintains trusted relationships across all teams while championing a culture that reflects and supports our Purpose, Vision, and ValuesPerform other duties as assignedRequired QualificationsJourneyman Electrician, Electrical Technician, or equivalent combination of education and hands-on experienceMinimum of 3–5 years of electrical and instrumentation experience in mining, chemicals manufacturing, heavy industrial, or process-driven environmentsStrong troubleshooting skills across electrical power distribution, control systems, and industrial instrumentationWorking knowledge of electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and control logicDemonstrated ability to safely perform lockout/tagout (LOTO) and verify zero-energy statesFamiliarity with MSHA and/or OSHA regulations, electrical codes, and industrial safety standardsAbility to work a flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends, overtime, and on-call rotations as requiredPhysically capable of working in industrial environments, including lifting up to 50 lbs., working at heights, and in confined spacesAbility to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including arc-flash and respiratory protectionPersonal commitment to Lithium Americas’ Purpose, Vision, and ValuesWorking at Lithium AmericasAt Lithium Americas, we believe our people are our most valuable asset.
