Job description

We are seeking a Process Improvement Engineer to join our engineering team at our Anderson, SC facility. The Process Improvement Engineer will own engineering process governance, documentation, and optimization for the Busbar Line of Business - with an expanded scope that includes engineering change management (ECM) lifecycle oversight. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and enforcing standardized engineering workflows that improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance product quality, while also governing the engineering change process from initiation through closure to ensure changes are executed accurately, traceably, and on time.

Busbar products are mission-critical power distribution systems engineered to order for data centers, communication networks, and industrial environments. In this high-mix, fast-paced environment, both workflow governance and change control are essential to maintaining product quality, regulatory compliance, and delivery performance. The Process Improvement Engineer will serve as the engineering representative on the Change Control Board (CCB) and will partner closely with the manufacturing change management function to ensure seamless coordination between engineering-initiated changes and production execution.

The ideal candidate has a track record of improving engineering operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, with demonstrated experience in both process optimization and engineering change management. This opportunity is for someone who wants to work within a technically driven team with minimal functional management. We look for people who are 100% team oriented, self-driven, and technically proficient.

Process Governance & Optimization
  • Own, develop, and maintain engineering process documentation including standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, process flowcharts, and RACI matrices.
  • Design and optimize engineering workflows from project intake through design release, ensuring efficiency and consistency across all product families.
  • Define, implement, and enforce Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for engineering deliverables; track and report on compliance.
  • Conduct regular process audits to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas of non-compliance; develop and implement corrective actions.
  • Analyze production and engineering data to identify trends, root causes of rework, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Report on process KPIs (lead time, execution time, SLA adherence, rework rates) to engineering leadership on a regular cadence.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or equivalent methodologies; champion a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Benchmark internal engineering processes against industry best practices and recommend improvements to drive operational excellence.
Engineering Change Management (ECM)
  • Govern the engineering change lifecycle (ECR, ECO, ECN) from initiation through closure, ensuring all change artifacts are complete, accurate, and traceable across PLM, ERP, and CAD systems.
  • Serve as the Engineering representative on the Change Control Board (CCB), coordinating with the manufacturing change management function on change review, approval, prioritization, and implementation.
  • Conduct engineering impact assessments for proposed changes, evaluating effects on BOMs, drawings, 3D models, agency certifications, tooling, and downstream production processes.
  • Monitor and report on ECO backlog, cycle time, and closure rates; identify recurring change drivers and recommend upstream corrective actions to reduce change volume.
  • Ensure BOM and drawing synchronization across PLM, ERP, and CAD systems during and after change execution; maintain revision control standards and audit trails for all engineering change documentation.
  • Develop and enforce engineering change management standards, templates, and workflows; train engineering staff on change initiation procedures and documentation requirements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Knowledge Transfer
  • Drive cross-functional alignment between Engineering, Project Management, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to streamline handoffs, reduce cycle time, and ensure change coordination.
  • Support the onboarding of new engineers by documenting standardized processes, creating training materials, and facilitating knowledge transfer.
  • Collaborate with continuous improvement resources and offshore CAD teams on workflow automation and tool optimization opportunities.
  • Facilitate process and change management adoption across the engineering organization, ensuring stakeholder buy-in and smooth implementation of new or revised workflows.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in process engineering, manufacturing engineering, or engineering operations, with demonstrated exposure to engineering change management.
  • Experience with engineering change order (ECO/ECN/ECR) lifecycle management in a discrete manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with process mapping, SOP development, and workflow optimization.
  • Knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma methodologies; Green Belt or Black Belt certification preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems (IFS, Oracle, or similar) and PLM/PDM tools for BOM management and change control.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks PDM or equivalent configuration/revision management tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data and drive decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with KPI development, tracking, and dashboard reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and process mapping tools (Visio, Lucidchart, or similar).
  • Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced ETO environment.
  • Experience in data center infrastructure, power distribution, or busbar/busway products preferred.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills; history of successful cross-functional collaboration.
