Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) in West Lafayette, IN is seeking a Process Engineering Technician I to support manufacturing processes, improve yield and equipment efficiency, and document procedures.

You will train operators, help procure tools, and work with teams to apply World Class Manufacturing principles. Travel for training during first 4-6 months is required.

Qualifications

  • You have a two-year technical degree or equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with the manufacturing equipment relevant to the role.
  • Basic computer skills including Windows-based programs such as Excel, Word, SQL.
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in measuring and improving yield, efficiency, and capacity of manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Document, modify, and maintain manufacturing procedures.
  • Manage procurement of assembly process tools.
  • Train operators and support staff as needed.

Job description

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is looking for someone to join our Process Engineering team in Manufacturing Operations as a Process Engineering Technician I in West Lafayette, Indiana. If you are looking to grow your career and are motivated by solving meaningful problems,

Must be willing and able to travel during the first 4-6 months of employment for training, totaling approximately 8-12 weeks in two-week increments.

As a Process Engineering Technician I, you’ll provide immediate technical support to manufacturing and clarify production process specification requirements to ensure accurate and efficient production.

A typical day as a Process Engineering Technician I might include:
  • Assisting in measuring and improving yield, efficiency, and capacity of manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Documenting, modifying, and maintaining manufacturing related procedures.
  • Managing the procurement of assembly process tools.
  • Training operators and support staff as needed.
  • Learning and applying SEL Values, Principles of Operation, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.
This job might be for you if:
  • You have a two-year technical degree or equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with the manufacturing equipment relevant to the role
  • You have basic computer skills including familiarity with windows-based programs such as Microsoft productivity tools (e.g., Excel, Word, SQL)
  • You have strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
  • You can learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
  • You can work cooperatively in a team environment.
It is a plus if you have:
  • Experience troubleshooting process and machinery problems.
  • Experience writing and/or conducting Design of Experiments.
  • Experience programming and maintaining automated manufacturing equipment and machinery.
  • Experience preparing materials cross-sections for microscopic analysis.
  • Working knowledge of basic analog and digital electronics.

Pay Range: $32.88 – $48.60 per hour

We set starting pay based on job-related factors such as your experience, training, knowledge, and skills. We are looking to fill this position at the Tech I level, and we welcome applicants with a range of experience. Depending on your background, we may consider you for a different level, with compensation aligned accordingly.

Process Engineering Technician I: $32.88 – $48.60 per hour

Process Engineering Technician II: $35.83 – $52.94 per hour

Process Engineering Technician III: $40.50 – $59.85 per hour
