Job description

Process Engineering Project Technical Leader
  • Full-time
  • Contract type: Standard

Veolia Group is a global leader in environmental services, operating across all five continents with nearly 218,000 employees. Specializing in water, energy, and waste management, Veolia Group designs and implements innovative solutions for decarbonization, depollution, and resource regeneration, supporting communities and industries in their ecological transformation.

Within this framework, Veolia's Water Technology Business brings together a dedicated team of experienced professionals committed to tackling the world's most complex challenges related to water scarcity, quality, productivity, and energy. Together, we pursue a shared mission to create a more sustainable future.

Process Engineers are key technical partners to customers across a range of markets in North America. They develop and support water, wastewater, and waste treatment solutions from initial sales and engineering through commissioning and operation.

For complex projects involving multiple treatment processes, the Process Engineering Project Technical Leader takes ownership of the overall treatment solution. Working with Process Engineers who bring expertise in the technologies involved, you'll guide the team in developing an integrated solution that meets customer requirements and can be delivered successfully.

You’ll bring deep technical knowledge, sound commercial judgment, and a strong understanding of customer processes, markets, regulations, and competitors. You'll help balance technical risk and commercial viability, lead troubleshooting when issues arise, and build trusted relationships with customers and industry experts. You'll also help share Veolia’s expertise through customer and industry presentations.

What you’ll do

  • Lead the development of complete water, wastewater, or waste treatment solutions, including process flow sheets, unit operations, and process parameters, using in-house and industry design tools.
  • Own the overall Process Flow Diagram (PFD), flow tables or mass balance, and process guarantees, working with the Process Engineers responsible for individual technologies.
  • Set the process strategy for the project, including the design basis, safety factors, treatment of flow variations, and approach to meeting customer requirements and competing effectively.
  • Coordinate Process Engineers working on the flow sheet. Define deliverables and schedules, assign work, and ensure process deliverables meet quality and schedule expectations.
  • Evaluate how unit processes interact, including their potential effects on upstream and downstream processes.
  • Identify and manage technical risks across the treatment solution in collaboration with the project team.
  • Serve as the lead technical contact for customers and for internal functions working on the project.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues using data and observations, and lead the team’s efforts to find and implement solutions.
  • Understand relevant regulations and liaise with regulatory agencies as needed.
  • Take accountability for the success of assigned projects throughout development, including treatment performance, successful operation, and customer satisfaction.
  • Communicate proactively, collaborate across teams, and lead corrective actions when needed.
  • Represent Veolia’s expertise in the external market through customer and conference presentations.
  • Provide training and one-to-one coaching to members of the Process Engineering team.
  • Bachelor’s degree in an accredited engineering discipline. Advanced degrees will be considered. A degree in another technical discipline, such as science, may also be considered with relevant experience.
  • Related experience, preferably in process engineering, with an emphasis on the design and/or operation of water, wastewater, or waste treatment systems.
  • Leadership experience or demonstrated leadership capability, including the ability to:
    • Connect people around a shared vision and objective.
    • Align and motivate a team.
    • Train, coach, and mentor others.
    • Make sound decisions with limited information in changing conditions.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • A customer-focused approach and the ability to balance technical and commercial considerations.

Working conditions

  • Office-based work environment.
  • Periodic travel within North America, with the possibility of travel beyond North America.
  • Technical leadership on individual proposals and projects.
  • Coordination of multiple Process Engineers who may not report directly to you.
  • Accountability for high-impact technical decisions. An error in the overall treatment solution could require the addition or replacement of a major unit operation or an entire membrane system.
