Job summary

Koch Fertilizer invites applications for a summer 2027 Process Engineering Intern position in Fort Dodge, Iowa. This 12-week program runs from late May to mid-August 2027 and offers hands-on experience solving real process challenges alongside our Engineering team.

As an intern, you will review drawings, support process improvement initiatives, and collaborate with cross-functional teams while gaining exposure to critical plant operations and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an engineering degree program.
• Eligible for full-time employment in the U.S. before or by May 2028.
• Legally authorized to work permanently in the United States for any employer without visa sponsorship.
• Able to meet all physical requirements.

Responsibilities

• Take on projects representative of full-time engineers' work, gaining hands-on experience with operational and process challenges.
• Review engineering drawings and technical documentation (P&IDs, PFDs, isometrics, plot plans).
• Support process improvement, instrumentation, and operational excellence initiatives through data analysis and documentation.
• Assist engineers with project execution, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement opportunities.
• Participate in pressure and catalyst surveys, gaining exposure to plant operations.
• Own projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop recommendations and deliver results.

What You Will Do

• Take on projects that are representative of the work our full-time engineers do, gaining hands-on experience solving real operational and process challenges.
• Review and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation, including Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), piping isometrics, plot plans, and specifications.
• Support process improvement, instrumentation, and operational excellence initiatives through project evaluations, data analysis, and engineering documentation development.
• Assist engineers with project execution, troubleshooting efforts, and continuous improvement opportunities that create value for the business.
• Participate in pressure and catalyst surveys, gaining firsthand exposure to critical process systems and plant operations.
• Own individual projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop recommendations and deliver results

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Bending, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to climb straight ladders. Some work may require heights in excess of 100 feet.
• Wearing industrial chemical plant uniforms and PPE as required.
• Confined space entry may be required.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

• Enrolled in an Engineering degree
• Eligible for full-time employment before or by May 2028

• Willing and able to meet all physical requirements
