Job summary

Koch Fertilizer is offering a summer 2027 Process Engineering Intern opportunity in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The 12-week program runs from late May to mid-August 2027 and provides hands-on experience with our engineering team.

As an intern, you will take on projects representative of full-time engineers, review engineering drawings, and support process improvement and operational excellence initiatives. You’ll gain exposure to plant operations, work outdoors, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

• Enrolled in an Engineering degree.
• Eligible for full-time employment before or by May 2028.

Responsibilities

• Take on projects that are representative of the work our full-time engineers do, gaining hands-on experience solving real operational and process challenges.
• Review and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation, including P&IDs, PFDs, piping isometrics, plot plans, and specifications.
• Support process improvement, instrumentation, and operational excellence initiatives through project evaluations, data analysis, and engineering documentation development.
• Assist engineers with project execution, troubleshooting efforts, and continuous improvement opportunities that create value for the business.
• Participate in pressure and catalyst surveys, gaining firsthand exposure to critical process systems and plant operations.
• Own individual projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop recommendations and deliver results

What You Will Do

• Take on projects that are representative of the work our full-time engineers do, gaining hands-on experience solving real operational and process challenges.
• Review and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation, including Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), piping isometrics, plot plans, and specifications.
• Support process improvement, instrumentation, and operational excellence initiatives through project evaluations, data analysis, and engineering documentation development.
• Assist engineers with project execution, troubleshooting efforts, and continuous improvement opportunities that create value for the business.
• Participate in pressure and catalyst surveys, gaining firsthand exposure to critical process systems and plant operations.
• Own individual projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop recommendations and deliver results

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Bending, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to climb straight ladders. Some work may require heights in excess of 100 feet.
• Wearing industrial chemical plant uniforms and PPE as required.
• Confined space entry may be required.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

• Enrolled in an Engineering degree
• Eligible for full-time employment before or by May 2028
• Legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship
• Willing and able to meet all physical requirements

• Enrolled in a degree related to Chemical, Electrical, Biosystems, Ag Systems, or a related field
