Process Engineer – Solid Door Manufacturing
The Process Engineer for Solid Door Manufacturing is responsible for optimizing and improving manufacturing processes to ensure the production of high-quality solid doors and other cabinet components while maintaining cost-efficiency, safety, and sustainability. This role also includes project management duties to lead and oversee process improvement projects, new product developments, and operational upgrades. The Process Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that manufacturing operations are running smoothly and effectively. This is an on-site position.
- Analyze existing manufacturing processes to identify areas for improvement in productivity, continuous improvement, quality, and cost reduction.
- Implement process modifications to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and meet production goals.
- Monitor and troubleshoot issues related to production machinery and processes, providing technical support for solutions.
- Project Management:
- Lead and manage projects aimed at process improvements, new product introductions, equipment upgrades/integrations, or production efficiency enhancements.
- Develop detailed project plans, including scope, timeline, communication, budget, resource allocation, and risk management.
- Coordinate with various departments (e.g., production, quality assurance, purchasing) to ensure timely execution of projects.
- Track project progress, report on milestones, and ensure timely project completion and within budget.
- Facilitate project meetings, provide regular updates, and manage project documentation.
- Resolve project issues by taking proactive steps and adjusting the plan as necessary.
- Quality Control:
- Ensure that all manufacturing processes meet the quality standards for solid doors, including dimensional accuracy, finish quality, and structural integrity.
- Work with the Quality Assurance (QA) team to implement quality control procedures and obtain/maintain certifications (e.g., ISO standards).
- Conduct root cause analysis for defects and implement corrective actions to minimize recurrence.
- New Product Development:
- Collaborate with design and product teams to evaluate new designs for manufacturability and propose process changes where necessary.
- Support the implementation of new products into production, ensuring smooth transition from design to full-scale manufacturing.
- Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Collect and analyze production data to assess the performance of manufacturing processes.
- Prepare detailed reports on production metrics, process improvements, project performance, and process-related issues.
- Use data-driven insights to suggest and implement improvements.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure all processes are compliant with industry safety standards and company policies.
- Develop, update, and enforce safety procedures for the manufacturing floor.
- Conduct regular safety audits and ensure adherence by all team members for safety protocols.
- Process Documentation and Standardization:
- Develop and maintain process documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs) for manufacturing processes.
- Create training materials for operators and staff to ensure consistent application of processes.
- Standardize processes to ensure consistency across shifts and between production lines.
- Cost Control and Resource Management:
- Monitor and control material usage and labor efficiency to meet production cost targets.
- Collaborate with the purchasing team to manage inventory levels and ensure the availability of required materials.
- Investigate and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality.
- Collaboration and Teamwork:
- Work closely with production leaders, maintenance teams, and other departments to ensure smooth operations.
- Provide training and support to operators and other staff to enhance skill sets and knowledge.
- Communicate effectively and demonstrate organizational agility in working across functions and adapting to changing business needs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
- Education in IT programming or related technical disciplines is preferred.
- Proven experience in process engineering, preferably in the manufacturing of wood or composite doors.
- Experience building or implementing software tools specifically for wood component manufacturers is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, including CNC machining, woodworking, assembly, finishing, and packaging.
- Experience with process improvement methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Kaizen is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in managing cross-functional projects, including project planning, resource management, and execution.
- Knowledge of quality control systems and standards.
- Proficiency in CAD software and process simulation tools.
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and project management skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Project management certifications (e.g., PMP, Agile) are preferred.
- Experience in door manufacturing or building materials production is highly desired.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and production management software.
- Certifications in Lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies is preferred.
While performing duties on the production floor, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes and/or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The noise level in the production work environment can be loud.
