Job summary

General Motors' Global Propulsion Systems Manufacturing Engineering Operational Excellence team is seeking a highly motivated Process Engineer – Reliability & Maintainability to drive world-class equipment uptime and maintainability across our propulsion manufacturing operations.

In this centralized role, you will develop and deploy robust maintenance systems, standards, and best practices that maximize equipment uptime during steady-state operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated achievements in both individual and team‑based manufacturing projects.
  • Proven project management skills with accountability for results.
  • Strong understanding of plant floor maintenance systems and equipment maintainability initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, complex projects with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the MFMEA (Maintenance Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) process.

Responsibilities

  • Support new program launches by validating maintenance deliverables and ensuring GM specifications and customer expectations are met.
  • Partner cross-functionally to optimize machinery and equipment designs for safety, uptime, and ease of maintenance.
  • Decrease enterprise costs by lowering indirect material spending.
  • Minimize unplanned downtime and extend machinery lifecycle.
  • Ensure equipment designs meet GM Bill of Equipment, safety, ergonomic, and maintenance requirements.
  • Collaborate with equipment manufacturers and GPS/Manufacturing Engineering Centers to develop common maintenance standards.
  • Deliver training and technical guidance as needed.
  • Advance Manufacturing 4.0 by identifying, evaluating, and implementing innovative technologies that improve equipment reliability and maintainability.
  • Support spare parts coding activities and customer interfaces with Global Business Solutions and the Share the Spare team.
  • Coach equipment manufacturers in developing effective skilled trades training aids (e.g., video, 3D-interactive media).
  • Provide ongoing expert-level technical support to manufacturing engineering and production facilities on complex equipment and maintenance issues.
  • Lead and facilitate lessons‑learned reviews from new program launches to continuously improve standards and practices.
  • Ensure alignment of maintenance expectations between Manufacturing Engineering and Manufacturing Operations.

Role Overview

The Global Propulsion Systems (GPS) Manufacturing Engineering Operational Excellence team is seeking a highly motivated Process Engineer – Reliability & Maintainability to drive world-class equipment uptime and maintainability across our propulsion manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities
