Georgia-Pacific’s Brewton, AL mill is seeking a Process Engineer (Power and Recovery) to advance processes, work with operators and leadership, and improve efficiency and lower costs. The role reports to the Utilities Production Area Leader.

The engineer will support lab testing, data analysis, energy balances, and safety initiatives while driving continuous improvement and automation projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Chemical or Pulp & Paper Technology) OR three (3) year or more years of experience in lab testing, lab analysis, data mining, and energy balances for manufacturing process
  • Computer experience including Excel, Word, functional databases, and data analysis

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate a culture of safety and environmental excellence through hazard identification, risk reduction, and risk mitigation
  • Develop sustainable processes working with peers to mentor and develop employees
  • Provide operational/business leadership and technical support for the manufacturing process of the area and facilitating troubleshooting and problem solving to achieve goals
  • Work in a team environment to develop, evaluate and implement safety, quality and/or cost reduction initiatives and projects that add the highest value to the operation to drive continuous improvement
  • Develop and support the effective use of automation and programming to promote a safe and reliable operation
  • Work in a team to plan for scheduled shutdowns, operator training, and maintenance or capital projects
  • Supply data and technical support for a 5-year planning process to make step change improvements in Operator Basic Care (OBC) and strategic capital projects

Job description

Georgia-Pacific’s Containerboard mill in Brewton, AL is seeking qualified individuals to consider for a Process Engineer (Power and Recovery) opportunity. The Process Engineer will provide the necessary technical support to test and advance the processes by working with operators, department management, peers in other departments and the leadership team to improve efficiency and lower operating costs. This position reports to the Utilities Production Area Leader. Our Team

The Brewton mill is in south central Alabama about an hour from Mobile, AL, Pensacola, FL, and the beautiful beaches of the Gulf Coast. The team is made up of 450 employees who produce white top linerboard and solid bleached sulfate (SBS) paperboard. The SBS material is used to make GP's Dixie plates. White top linerboard is used in production of corrugated containers and displays. This position is an opportunity to be part of a rapidly expanding organization with tremendous growth potential. The most recent $160M capital investment is expected to be completed in late 2024. Brewton was also the first fully integrated pulp and paper mill in the US to receive an Energy Star designation from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. What You Will Do

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Chemical or Pulp & Paper Technology) OR three (3) year or more years of experience in lab testing, lab analysis, data mining, and energy balances for manufacturing process
  • Computer experience including Excel, Word, functional databases, and data analysis
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Experience working in an integrated Utility Department (i.e. water treatment thru boiler operations, liquor management cycle and evaporation, and recovery process)
  • Experience working in a Chemical Process Safety Management (CPS) covered processes
  • Process control experience and implementation of automated controls
