Job summary

Freeform is seeking a Process Engineer to invent and optimize novel processes for advanced metal 3D printing systems. You will analyze massive in‑situ data and post‑print material characteristics, iterating quickly to push the technology forward.

The role emphasizes deep fundamental understanding, first principles thinking, and collaboration with mechanical, software, and simulations engineers to accelerate improvements. Onsite, fast-paced R&D environment.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in materials science, physics, or a similar engineering discipline.
• Strong data analysis skills and ability to interpret information from very large data sets.
• Experience with experimental design and statistical data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Process Engineering team in developing a deep understanding of the metal additive process by analyzing large in‑situ data sets.
• Drive execution of experiments, analyze data, and optimize processes on a metal additive system.
• Perform post‑build metrology and analyze material properties (tensile strength, surface roughness, microstructure).
• Generate and track quality metrics of printed parts (dimensional accuracy, defect distribution, surface roughness).
• Assist in development and implementation of tool qualification procedures.
• Collaborate across mechanical, software, and simulations engineers to rapidly improve printing processes.
