Job summary

RPM SPG seeks a Jr Process Engineer to provide engineering support, maintain product quality, and optimize production flow at the Cleveland area plant. The role involves assisting QC activities, implementing new process technology, and contributing to maintenance and capital improvement plans.

The candidate should have a mechanical or electrical engineering background with 1+ years in manufacturing operations, strong problem-solving, and the ability to work with SAP, Excel, and Word.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering.
  • 1+ years engineering experience, including experience with manufacturing operations.
  • Relevant internships qualify.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with all levels of the plant.
  • Creation of standard work instructions/SOP's.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of arithmetic, statistics, continuous improvement concepts, ISO procedures, and their applications.
  • Ability to apply Excel, Word, and SAP applications to daily job responsibilities.
  • Continuous web process and batch process equipment experience.
  • Knowledge of safety, environmental, SOX, ISO, and workplace regulations in the plant.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and make decisions on most critical to keep the project moving forward.
  • Self-motivated team player.
  • Must be able to communicate technical concepts proficiently both verbally and in written form related to product usage, competitive product analysis, product specifications, product repairs, and problems, etc.
  • Must possess strong problem-solving skills and employ a solutions-oriented approach.
  • Must have strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine standards and establish quality and reliability objectives.
  • Coordinate quality control objectives and activities as detailed in the facility site plan to resolve production problems, maximize product consistency and minimize cost.
  • Prepare estimates of production costs and progress reports for management.
  • Design measurement and control systems for chemical plants based on data from labs and pilot operations.
  • Use SAP to monitor production/business functions.
  • Recommend modifications to current processes and equipment and document follow-up with responsible engineers.
  • Develop and streamline site metrics and KPIs.
  • Assist in capital plans, budgets, and equipment maintenance improvements.
  • Provide technical leadership for maintenance and improvements.
  • Deliver disciplined project management and product development assistance.
  • Regular review of batch first pass yield, distressed, obsolete, scrap, and returns.
  • Troubleshoot batch and raw material issues.
  • Interface with leadership, operators, and maintenance for continuous improvement.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Process Engineer (Jr) provides engineering support to the assigned program and/or area to ensure the product is processed in accordance with customer and division quality requirements while maintaining production flow. Charged with developing and maintaining systems to assure that all products manufactured by the plant meet customer specifications and achieve superior and reliability levels. Responsible for investigating and implementing new process technology at the plant. The Process Engineer (Jr) is responsible for maintaining, upgrading, and optimizing the plant. This position will assist the QC Lab area and all QC activities. This position is responsible for influencing the development of preventative maintenance programs at the facility and will have a significant role in capital improvement plans while assisting in work area design, plant layout, visual control and metric implementation, material flow, process tracking, and communication.

Duties/Responsibilities, Core knowledge:

Analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine standards and establish quality and reliability objectives of the finished productParticipate in plant metric reportingCoordinate quality control objectives and activities as detailed in the facility site plan to resolve any production problems that may occur, maximize product consistency and minimize costPrepare estimate of production costs and production progress reports for managementDesign measurement and control systems for chemical plants based on data collected in laboratory experiments and in pilot plant operationsUse SAP to monitor production/business functions Recommend modifications to current processes and equipment; document and follow up with process engineers responsible for the modificationsWorks with the plant engineers and maintenance to influence the direction of preventative maintenance best practicesSupport a high-performance results-oriented culture and maintain high standards of safety and complianceProvide technical and operational leadership for equipment and facility maintenance and improvementsDeliver disciplined project management and product development assistanceRegular review of batch first pass yield, felt production quality, distressed, obsolete, scrap, and returned materialTroubleshoot batch and raw material issuesAssist in the identification of capital requirements for the facilities' annual capital plans and budgetsHelp investigate equipment failures, difficulties, and deficienciesInterface with leadership, operators, and maintenance to ensure continuous improvement and continuous productionDevelop and streamline their critical metrics and assist when necessaryAssist in the development of site metrics and KPI'sPerform a job in accordance with all Tremco safety policies and proceduresPerform other duties, as assigned.
