Kent Precision Foods Group in Muscatine, IA, invites applications for a Process Engineer Intern for summer 2027 at our NEW Cat Litter facility. The role offers hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment and exposure to cross-functional teams.

You will support production improvements, learn process flows, and assist in documenting standard procedures while developing lean skills and contributing to safety and quality goals.

Qualifications

• Majoring in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering preferred.
• Completion of 2+ engineering semesters.
• Interest in lean manufacturing principles.
• Proficiency with analytical tools and time studies.
• Internship or co-op experience in operations/manufacturing strongly desired.
• Understand and create process flows and SOPs.

Responsibilities

• Assist technical team to increase production while controlling costs and preserving quality.
• Collaborate with operations to troubleshoot process issues.
• Learn process flows and production specs to drive efficiencies.
• Monitor data and aid corrective actions for operational excellence.
• Help develop process documentation, flow charts, and standard work.

• This position is designed and intended to be performed in Muscatine, IA.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist Technical team in increasing production, assess capacity and flexibility while minimizing unnecessary costs and maintaining current quality standards
• Work directly with operations team in troubleshooting and resolving process issues
• Ability to learn process flows and production specifications to help drive production efficiencies
• Monitors operations data and assists in corrective actions to drive operational excellence
• Helps develop systems and processes that track and optimize productivity and standards, metrics and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets
• Identify opportunities to prevent waste and inefficiency in production
• Ability to learn and create required manufacturing process documentation, including process flow charts, capacity and utilization studies, time and motion studies, standard work, cycle time analysis and line balancing
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gain insight and direction
• Ensures compliance with health and safety laws, regulations, and guidelines, including EPA and OSHA requirements

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:

• Majoring in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering preferred
• Completion of 2 or more semesters in Engineering
• Interest and general understanding of lean manufacturing principles
• Proficiency with analytical tools, workflow time study, and process balancing
• Internship or co-op experience in an operations or manufacturing environment strongly desired
• Understand, create, and update process flows, including documentation and standard operating procedures

TRAVEL:

• Up to 10% travel for meetings or training may be required.

OTHER:

• Must be able to lift 32-pound bags of litter on an infrequent basis
