Job summary

KENT WORLDWIDE in Muscatine, IA is offering a Process Engineer Intern position for the summer of 2027 at their new Cat Litter facility. This paid internship provides hands-on experience in production processes and manufacturing operations.

You will work with the technical team to improve production efficiency, learn process flows, document standard operations, and collaborate with cross-functional teams while complying with health and safety regulations.

Qualifications

• Majoring in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
• Completion of 2 or more semesters in Engineering.
• Interest in lean manufacturing principles.
• Proficiency with analytical tools, workflow time study, and process balancing.
• Internship or co-op experience in operations or manufacturing is strongly desired.
• Computer literacy and ability to create/update process flows and SOPs.

Responsibilities

• Assist Technical team in increasing production and reducing costs while maintaining quality.
• Work with operations to troubleshoot process issues.
• Learn process flows and production specifications to drive efficiencies.
• Monitor data and assist in corrective actions to improve operations.
• Help develop systems to track productivity, metrics, and performance.
• Identify opportunities to prevent waste and inefficiency in production.
• Create manufacturing process documentation, flow charts, and time studies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams for insights and direction.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety laws and EPA/OSHA guidelines.

• This position is designed and intended to be performed in Muscatine, IA.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist Technical team in increasing production, assess capacity and flexibility while minimizing unnecessary costs and maintaining current quality standards
• Work directly with operations team in troubleshooting and resolving process issues
• Ability to learn process flows and production specifications to help drive production efficiencies
• Monitors operations data and assists in corrective actions to drive operational excellence
• Helps develop systems and processes that track and optimize productivity and standards, metrics and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets
• Identify opportunities to prevent waste and inefficiency in production
• Ability to learn and create required manufacturing process documentation, including process flow charts, capacity and utilization studies, time and motion studies, standard work, cycle time analysis and line balancing
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gain insight and direction
• Ensures compliance with health and safety laws, regulations, and guidelines, including EPA and OSHA requirements

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

• Majoring in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering preferred
• Completion of 2 or more semesters in Engineering
• Interest and general understanding of lean manufacturing principles
• Proficiency with analytical tools, workflow time study, and process balancing
• Internship or co-op experience in an operations or manufacturing environment strongly desired
• Computer literacy
• Understand, create, and update process flows, including documentation and standard operating procedures

TRAVEL

• Up to 10% travel for meetings or training may be required.

OTHER

• Must be able to lift 32-pound bags of litter on an infrequent basis
