Overview
Dallas, TX — Injection Molding Process Engineer opportunity with a plastics company. Responsible for developing and validating molding processes for prototype, pilot and production using scientific methods; monitoring operations; training the molding team; and collaborating with production, quality control, and engineering to ensure high-quality molded parts.
Responsibilities
- Develop new processes for prototype, pilot and production using scientific methods.
- Monitor molding operations and provide technical support for processes.
- Assist in the development and training of molding department technicians.
- Work with production and quality control to ensure availability of high-quality molded parts.
- Set specifications for all molding materials and monitor compliance, ensuring materials are applied correctly in molding systems.
- Develop and manage process specifications for all molder/mold combinations in the plant.
- Monitor molding manufacturing processes and implement cost and quality improvements to minimize waste.
- Evaluate and interact with outside supplier sources for molded parts, components, molds, and tooling.
- Develop new tooling processes for prototype, pilot and production tooling using scientific methods.
- Manage and/or lead automation projects from concept through validation and factory acceptance.
- Plan projects effectively and coordinate with all departments to ensure successful execution.
- Ensure project documentation is created and revision controlled, including design files, validation protocols and reports, operational procedures, and preventive maintenance plans.
- Source vendors and internal design capabilities to create custom automation solutions; communicate professionally with customers and vendors.
- Lead discussions with leadership and key stakeholders to determine automation capabilities and goals.
- Develop cost estimates for cost-benefit analyses of automation opportunities.
- Prepare and write validation documents, user requirements (URS), equipment specifications (FRS), and other documents as needed.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Education/Experience
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent; 5-10 years of experience in a similar position. Manufacturing or medical/pharmaceutical industry experience is preferred, particularly with mechanical components or device manufacturing. Experience with Thermoplastics, Polyolefins, Engineered Plastics, Polypropylene, Polyethylene, HDPE, LLDPE or LDPE is a plus.
