Process Engineer – III-V Semiconductor Device Fabrication

Cambridge

Process Engineer – III-V Semiconductor Device Fabrication

Pendar Technologies is seeking a Process Engineer to join our Infrared Photonics Group in Cambridge, MA. You will help develop and manufacture advanced optoelectronic devices, including quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) and integrated photonics, by advancing wafer-level microfabrication from prototyping to high-yield production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute hands-on semiconductor processing in both in-house and external cleanroom environments (e.g., Harvard CNS, MIT).
  • Develop and optimize semiconductor fabrication processes, including lithography, thin-film deposition (CVD, PVD—especially sputtering), and etching techniques (ICP-RIE and wet etch).
  • Perform wafer evaluation using SEM and other metrology tools.
  • Support and troubleshoot cleanroom equipment; assist with preventative maintenance.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure robust process integration into advanced systems.
  • Document and maintain experiment logs and process specifications to meet quality and performance metrics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in semiconductor processing, especially with III-V materials.
  • Experience with cleanroom safety, protocols, and process flows.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and flexibly in a fast-paced R&D and production environment.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Direct hands-on experience as a user at Harvard CNS, MIT.nano, or UMass Lowell Nanofab is a huge plus.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor laser device physics and reliability is a plus.
  • Familiarity with software such as Python, Excel, Outlook, and Word is a plus.

Why Join Pendar?

  • Work on cutting-edge photonics technologies powering mission-critical sensing systems.
  • Collaborate with a focused team of 5–10 engineers within a 50+ person company.
  • Access premier facilities and resources, including Harvard CNS and MIT.nano.
  • Enjoy a dynamic environment that blends R&D innovation with production discipline.
  • Gain mentorship from experienced engineers and scientists, with clear opportunities for skill development and internal career progression.
  • Benefits: A comprehensive package of health and retirement benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, along with a 401(k) retirement savings plan with company matching.
