Morgan Advanced Materials is seeking a Process Engineer for its Wilkes-Barre, PA operations to drive continuous improvement across manufacturing. The role focuses on safety, quality, productivity and throughput, leveraging lean principles and data-driven methods.

You will lead process improvements, develop BOMs and control plans, conduct PFMEAs, and train staff while collaborating with the Ohio site. Requires a Bachelor's in engineering and 5+ years' experience; travel up to 25% may be required.

  • Knowledge of SPC, problem solving tools (8D, Pareto, PDCA), and Minitab.
  • Quality orientation and high attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and time management skills.
  • LEAN experience with focus on problem identification and resolution.
  • Able to read technical drawings and write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Travel to Ohio site may be required (up to 25%).

The Technical Ceramics business of Morgan Advanced Materials engineers high performance functional and structural ceramic materials, components and sub-assemblies to address customer-specific technical challenges.

Responsibilities

The Process Engineer is responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives by leading the standardization of manufacturing processes and products. All initiatives are to support and improve safety, quality, productivity, and throughput. This position, located in Wilkes Barre, PA collaborates with operations to identify opportunities for process improvements, scrap/rework reduction, and overall yield improvements at both the Pennsyvania and Ohio sites. Responsibilites with a safety mindset and in accordance with all safety rules and regulations include:

Process Improvement

  • Captures all aspects of existing manufacturing processes and uses lean principles to drive improvement initiatives, reduce process variability, and improve product overall yields.
  • Qualifying processes and leads needed changes and improvements during the qualification phase of part launches.
  • Conducts product stand-downs with operational cross-functional teams as processes are updated and new processing techniques are developed and implemented.
  • Develops, updates, and maintains Bills of Materials, work instructions, procedures, and control plans
  • Conducts PFMEAs on manufacturing processes
  • Evaluates, troubleshoots, and solves production problems on the shop floor
  • Assists in training manufacturing associates on best operational practices
  • Responsible for data/process monitoring, DOEs, and improvements for assigned product lines

Quality

  • Develops sampling plans for part visual and dimensional requirements. Ability to implement data collection processes to support improvement initiatives and to meet customer specification requirements.
  • Understands Geometric Dimensioning and tolerance, Measurement Systems Analysis, and validates test equipment through statistical techniques (i.e. Gage R&R, Gage Linearity, etc).
  • Understanding of Quality Management Systems ISO9001 or AS9100 is a plus.
  • Leads corrective and preventative actions as assigned.
Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field.
  • 5 + years related experience and/or training.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing systems, statistical process control, Problem solving tools (8D, Pareto, PDCA), and minitab
  • Quality orientation and high attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and time management skills
  • Prior experience in LEAN manufacturing preferred with focus on problem identification, classification, and resolution skills.
  • Works well with others within and outside the organization.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and part drawings.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively and deliver presentations before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Training in statistics in school and on-the-job preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel; Minitab, 3D Design Suite (CAD), preferred.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and engineering drawings.
  • Travel to the Ohio site may be required (up to 25%).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work performed in an office and factory settings. Exposure to the manufacturing areas which require the use of personal protective equipment. Exposure to shop environment such as noise, dust, and odors. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting up to 20 lbs as required.
