Job summary

Bekaert in the United States seeks an early-career Continuous Improvement Engineer to support operations, analyze processes, and drive waste and cycle-time reductions on the plant floor.

You will lead and participate in improvement events, collaborate with maintenance and suppliers, and contribute to safety, quality, delivery, and cost metrics at the Wilkes-Barre site.

Qualifications

  • 0–2 years of professional experience required; 3+ years a plus.
  • Six Sigma Yellow Belt is a plus.
  • Experience with data analysis software (Power BI, Excel, Minitab, etc.).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work with machine owners/operators and a global team.

Responsibilities

  • Supports job setup and work balancing.
  • Develops equipment specs with suppliers and maintenance.
  • Ensures process stability.
  • Ensures standardized work and instructions accuracy.
  • Participates in best practice groups and ensures internal and external consistency at the plant.
  • Supports problem solving with technical expertise.
  • Introduces new technologies and investigates ideas.
  • Participates in layered audits.
  • Accountable for meeting/exceeding targets.
  • Accountable for process design/verification in area of responsibility.
  • Exhibits visible leadership and communication.
  • Leads CI activities.
  • Tactical floor time on audits, problem solving, safety walks.
  • Strategic budgeting and production planning.
  • Ensures processes meet business metrics.
  • Responsible for deploying new product planning.

Job description

Purpose and Mission
  • Providing engineering and technical support to operations and identifying potential cost savings
  • Analyzing current processes and delivering options for continuous improvement
  • Planning, leading, and/or supporting the implementation of focused improvement events, cycle time reductions, set up reductions and pull systems resulting in scrap reduction
  • Floor Time - 70% or greater
Key Activities and Responsibilities
  • Is readily available to the team to support in job setup and work balancing
  • Develops equipment specifications, working with suppliers and maintenance
  • Ensures process stability
  • Ensures accuracy of standardized work and relevant work instructions
  • Participates in best practice groups, owns consistency internal and external to the plant
  • Supports the team in problem solving activities, technical expertise
  • Introduces and investigates suggestions of new technologies
  • Participates in layered audits
  • Is accountable for meeting or exceeding business targets
  • Is accountable for the process design and verification in their area of responsibility
  • Visible leadership and personal communication
  • Process improvement (drive CI activities)
  • Tactical includes spending time on the floor (e.g., layered audits, updates and participation to problem solving, safety walks, etc.) and meetings on critical areas
  • Strategic includes budgeting and production planning
  • Assures processes are capable of meeting business metrics
  • Is responsible for deployment of new product planning

Previous Experience
  • Required degree in Engineering, Preferred degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
  • 0-2 years of professional experience required, 3+ years of experience a plus
  • Specialty skills preferred: Six Sigma Yellow Belt, a plus
  • Preferred experience using software to analyze data, Power BI, Excel, Minitab, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills desired, an ability to communicate to machine owners/operators and a global team
Qualifications and Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, mechanical, or industrial engineering is preferred.
