Job summary

Cenovus Energy is hiring a Process Engineer for our Toledo Refinery. You will provide technical support across process areas, drive safety and reliability improvements, and work with the optimization team to reduce costs. A Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering and 2+ years of refinery experience are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering required.
  • 2+ years experience in refining or a similar process industry required.
  • Equivalents considered with transferable skills and education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide process engineering support and technical expertise within defined areas of accountability to ensure safe, reliable, and optimal operations.
  • Optimize variable costs using technical knowledge and proactive energy management.
  • Analyze variances between the commercial plan and actual performance and assist the optimization team in closing gaps.
  • Participate in HAZOPs, LOPAs, and incident investigations.
  • Support reporting and verification activities for safety and environmental compliance, including Title V.
  • Ensure safe operating limits and availability envelopes are understood and address recurring SOL/SDL exceedances.
  • Lead Management of Change (MOC) and Process Safety Minimum Expectations (PSME) gap analyses.
  • Identify and justify turnaround scope and assist turnaround planning and execution.

Cenovus Energy is seeking a talented Process Engineer to join our team at the Toledo Refinery. Reporting to the Manager, Process Engineering, you'll serve as the technical advisor for an operating area of the refinery, providing objective evaluations of process challenges and driving continuous improvements in safety, reliability, and business performance.

What you’ll do:

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Provide process engineering support and technical expertise within defined areas of accountability, applying process engineering, process control, and process technology to achieve safe, reliable, and optimal operations
  • Optimize variable costs by using technical knowledge and a proactive approach to energy management
  • Analyze variances between the commercial plan and actual performance, and help the optimization team close gaps

Who you are:

Legally authorized to work in the US

Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering required

2+ years experience in refining or a similar process industry (chemical, manufacturing, or nuclear) required

Previous refinery experience or experience within a closely related process industry considered an asset
