Job description

At IDEXX, our purpose is to enhance the health and well-being of pets, people, and livestock. We develop diagnostics, software, and services that help veterinarians around the world detect illness earlier, make confident decisions, and give pets longer, healthier lives. Every instrument, test, and consumable we build ends up in a clinic where a pet is waiting for answers, and the engineers who keep our manufacturing operations running are a big part of that.

As a Process Engineer in Manufacturing Process Development (MPD), you will play a key role in developing, scaling up, and optimizing the manufacturing processes that support IDEXX products. The Manufacturing Process Development team collaborates closely with Product Development, Manufacturing, and Quality to translate new product designs into robust, efficient, and high-quality production processes

Our Roswell site is home to OPTI Medical, an IDEXX company that designs and manufactures point-of-care blood gas and electrolyte analyzers and related consumables for human healthcare. The site also produces electrolyte slides and other consumables that power IDEXX veterinary analyzers, including the Catalyst One and Catalyst Dx chemistry analyzers. The equipment your team supports directly enables life-saving diagnostics for both people and pets.

Why this role matters:

Every IDEXX product depends on a manufacturing process that is consistent, scalable, and well controlled. In this role, you'll help bring new products to market and keep existing ones running efficiently, which directly supports the veterinarians, pet owners, and customers who rely on our products. It's a strong starting point for an engineer who wants hands‑on exposure to process development, validation, and continuous improvement, with plenty of room to learn from experienced colleagues and grow your network across the company.

In this role:
  • You will design and run process development studies to improve process capability, robustness, quality, cost, and efficiency.
  • You will troubleshoot manufacturing challenges and refine processes, partnering with internal teams and suppliers.
  • Your day-to-day will include recommending and justifying equipment and tooling, then managing its implementation to meet cost, quality, and schedule goals.
  • You will support process validation and technology transfer, using the right level of verification and validation for new tools and processes.
  • You will develop methods for handling and processing materials that meet design, manufacturing, and safety requirements.
  • You will keep processes ISO compliant by developing specifications for process output and determining test methods to confirm compliance.
  • You will write SOPs and work instructions and train team members on the methods and techniques involved.
  • You will partner with Product Development, Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, and outside vendors to plan and carry out work.
  • You will apply Lean, Six Sigma, and other quality and reliability improvement techniques, and take part in related projects.
  • You will learn the technical details of the products you support and become a go‑to expert on them.
  • You will manage tasks and projects from start to finish and work toward your goals with guidance from more experienced engineers.
What you need to succeed:
  • Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to solve problems: identify issues, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and implement solutions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presenting technical data and writing clear SOPs and work instructions for different audiences
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects through to completion
  • Ability to work independently and as part of cross‑functional teams
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret standards (e.g., ISO 9000), specifications, professional journals, and technical procedures
  • Ability to work with design verification/validation, process validation, and change management procedures
  • Ability to understand manufacturing process documentation and update it as needed
  • Knowledge of ISO, GMP, quality audit, safety, and environmental requirements
  • Familiarity with, or ability to learn, Lean and Six Sigma principles and techniques
  • Ability to learn the technical aspects of the products you support
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project) and other engineering software as needed
  • Ability to recognize film coating improvement opportunities (foil production related) to improve profitability
  • Some working knowledge of SAP is preferred
What you can expect from us:
  • $80,000 - $85,000 / year, depending on experience
  • Health / Dental / Vision Benefits Day-One
  • Opportunity for annual cash bonus
  • 5% matching 401k
  • Opportunity for performance based annual merit increase
  • Generous PTO benefits
  • 10 paid holidays per year
  • Safe location in a modern environment
  • Temperature controlled work environment
  • Additional benefits including but not limited to financial support, mental health resources, wellness resources, volunteer paid days off, foundation donation matching, and more!
