Qualifications

• 7+ years of hands-on controls engineering experience including PLC programming and HMI development.
• Strong proficiency with Allen-Bradley PLCs and Rockwell software.
• Understanding of industrial control networks and protocols (Ethernet/IP, OPC, Modbus, TCP/IP).
• Experience integrating sensors, actuators, motion control, robotics, and drives.
• Ability to travel up to 5% and drive projects independently.

Responsibilities

• Lead automation controls engineering across production lines and equipment.
• Design, program, test, and optimize PLC- and HMI-based control systems.
• Support machine automation tech including motion control, vision, robotics, sensors, and safety systems.
• Develop control strategies to improve cycle time, reliability, quality, and throughput.

• Develop automation logic, interlocks, alarms, and user interfaces.
• Integrate automation equipment with plant-floor systems and data devices.
• Collaborate with suppliers, manufacturing engineering, and operations for upgrades.
• Design control system architectures, panels, networks, and device connectivity.
• Support OT cybersecurity best practices and lead troubleshooting in live production.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives tied to equipment performance and uptime.

In This Role

• You'll lead automation controls engineering efforts across production lines and equipment.

• You'll design, program, test, and optimize PLC- and HMI-based control systems.

• You'll support machine automation technologies, including motion control, machine vision, industrial robotics, sensors, safety systems, and related control devices.

• You'll develop control strategies to improve cycle time, reliability, quality, and throughput.

• You'll write, debug, and implement PLC and HMI applications, primarily in Rockwell Studio 5000 and FactoryTalk platforms.

• Your day-to-day will include developing automation logic, control sequences, interlocks, alarms, and user interfaces.

• You'll integrate automation equipment with plant-floor systems, including sensors, robots, instrumentation, and data acquisition devices.

• You'll partner with equipment suppliers, manufacturing engineering, and operations to implement new equipment and upgrades.

• You'll design control system architectures, control panels, communication networks, and industrial device connectivity.

• You'll support OT cybersecurity best practices within automation controls environments.

• You'll lead troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and support of control systems in live production environments.

• You'll drive continuous improvement initiatives tied to equipment performance, uptime, and automation maturity.

What You Need to Succeed

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline-or equivalent experience.

• 7+ years of hands-on controls engineering experience, including PLC programming, HMI development, and industrial automation support.

• Strong proficiency with Allen-Bradley PLCs and Rockwell Automation software.

• Solid understanding of industrial control networks and communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, OPC, Modbus, TCP/IP, etc.).

• Experience integrating automation hardware (sensors, actuators, motion control, robotics, drives, etc.).

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a proven ability to resolve complex automation issues.

• Experience driving projects independently with strong communication and organizational skills.

• Ability to travel up to 5%.

• Preferred:

  • Experience with machine vision, robotics, and advanced motion control systems.

  • Knowledge of SQL databases, data collection, and basic data integration.

  • Familiarity with Python or scripting for automation support tasks.

  • Understanding of MES/ERP connectivity or plant-floor data systems (not required but beneficial).

  • Exposure to Industry 4.0 concepts, edge devices, or IIoT connectivity.

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) or modern data tools (Power BI, Tableau) is a plus.

  • Understanding of ISA standards such as ISA-95 or ISA/IEC 62443 (cybersecurity).
