Job summary

Hargrove Engineers & Constructors in North Carolina seeks a seasoned process engineer to lead design activities across chemical and biochemical processes. The role involves P&ID development, mass and energy balancing, and equipment sizing, with a strong emphasis on safety and reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master of Science in Chemical, Mechanical, Biochemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an accredited university is required.
• Registered PE or CPIP is highly preferred or required for advancement.

Responsibilities

• Lead Root Cause Analysis and identify preventative or corrective actions.
• Develop P&ID drawings and ensure accuracy of process diagrams.
• Perform Mass and Energy Balances on unit operations and processes.
• Size pumps, exchangers, valves, flow meters and other equipment based on process data.
• Support process safety and incident investigations to improve environmental performance.
• Participate in Process Hazards Analysis teams and capital project support.
• Assist in plant start-ups and reliability improvement initiatives.

What You'll Be Doing

Job Scope: Generally responsible for performing all aspects for complete designs of process engineering assignments. This work will be performed under general supervision.

Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

• Conduct and lead Root Cause Analysis and identifying preventative / corrective actions
• P&ID development
• Complete Mass and Energy Balances on unit operations to processes
• Provide process data to size pumps, exchangers, control valves, flow meters and other basic equipment or unit operations
• Basic systematic troubleshooting
• Proficient in Excel and other MS Office products
• Support the site's safety efforts through activities such as safety observations, safety improvement projects and key safety procedure audits.
• Resolving day-to-day production issues and process problems
• Initiate and/or approve MOC requests to include action items, training, PSSR's, etc. and communicate changes.
• Assist in incident investigations, identifying root causes and appropriate corrective actions to improve safety and environmental performance at the Bessemer City site.
• Analysis of Asset Utilization data for reliability and capacity improvement opportunities
• Process safety assessment and improvement initiatives
• Maintaining accurate process technology information
• Development and execution of small-scale quality, yield, or capacity improvement initiatives
• Capital project support
• Plant / process start-ups
• Participate in Process Hazards Analysis teams.
• Support resolution of high-risk scenario action items generated from PHA teams, etc.

Ideal Background

Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Biochemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an accredited university is required.

Registration: Professional Engineering registration or CPIP certification is highly preferred.

Experience: This position requires 5+ years of relevant industrial experience in chemical, petroleum, or biochemical process design engineering.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong knowledge of chemical processing with the ability to solve complex chemical engineering process problems
• Exposure to production and process functions; experience in a PSM covered process (preferred).
• Proficient in Project Management & AFE Process
• Presentation skills, public speaking
• Knowledge of LOPA, PHA, EHS Policy/Procedures/SOP
• Environmental Regulations Specific to Plant Processes
• Proficiency in DCS/PLC Process Control
• Comfortable being out in the plant
