Job summary

Hargrove Engineers & Constructors in the United States seeks a seasoned Process Engineer with 5+ years of industrial experience in chemical, petroleum, or biochemical process design. You will lead design efforts, perform mass and energy balances, develop P&IDs, and support safety and reliability improvements on plant operations at the Bessemer City site.

Strong knowledge of chemical processing, PLC/DCS control, and PSM exposure are highly valued.

Qualifications

  • This role requires strong knowledge of chemical processing and the ability to solve complex engineering problems.
  • Experience in a PSM-covered process is preferred.
  • Proficiency in project management and AFE processes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complete designs for process engineering assignments under supervision.
  • Lead root cause analyses and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop P&ID and perform mass and energy balances on units.
  • Provide data to size pumps, exchangers, and other equipment.
  • Support safety initiatives and participate in incident investigations.
  • Assist in process hazards analyses and start-up activities.
  • Coordinate with plant operations to improve reliability and capacity.

Job description

What You'll Be Doing

Job Scope: Generally responsible for performing all aspects for complete designs of process engineering assignments. This work will be performed under general supervision.

  • Conduct and lead Root Cause Analysis and identifying preventative / corrective actions
  • P&ID development
  • Complete Mass and Energy Balances on unit operations to processes
  • Provide process data to size pumps, exchangers, control valves, flow meters and other basic equipment or unit operations
  • Basic systematic troubleshooting
  • Proficient in Excel and other MS Office products
  • Support the site’s safety efforts through activities such as safety observations, safety improvement projects and key safety procedure audits.
  • Resolving day-to-day production issues and process problems
  • Initiate and/or approve MOC requests to include action items, training, PSSR’s, etc. and communicate changes.
  • Assist in incident investigations, identifying root causes and appropriate corrective actions to improve safety and environmental performance at the Bessemer City site.
  • Analysis of Asset Utilization data for reliability and capacity improvement opportunities
  • Process safety assessment and improvement initiatives
  • Maintaining accurate process technology information
  • Development and execution of small-scale quality, yield, or capacity improvement initiatives
  • Capital project support
  • Plant / process start-ups
  • Participate in Process Hazards Analysis teams.
  • Support resolution of high-risk scenario action items generated from PHA teams, etc.
Ideal Background

Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Biochemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an accredited university is required. Registration: Professional Engineering registration or CPIP certification is highly preferred.

Experience: This position requires 5+ years of relevant industrial experience in chemical, petroleum, or biochemical process design engineering.

  • Strong knowledge of chemical processing with the ability to solve complex chemical engineering process problems
  • Exposure to production and process functions; experience in a PSM covered process (preferred).
  • Proficient in Project Management & AFE Process
  • Presentation skills, public speaking
  • Knowledge of LOPA, PHA, EHS Policy/Procedures/SOP
  • Environmental Regulations Specific to Plant Processes
  • Proficiency in DCS/PLC Process Control
  • Comfortable being out in the plant
  • Good composure
  • Familiar with Lean manufacturing principles, OAU
  • Identify through observation bottlenecks and issues to help the existing production process run better
  • Effective communicator, up and down
  • Familiar with and know how to read single line diagrams, piping isometrics, tank and equipment drawings
