IN DEMAND Recruitment & Consulting Inc. is currently assisting our client in their search for a Process Engineer for their refinery operations in Martinez, California.

Overview

Our client seeks a Process Engineer to provide technical engineering support for refinery operations and to drive continuous improvement, process optimization, and operational excellence. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to improve safety, reliability, production efficiency, and overall unit performance within a complex refinery environment.

This position is ideal for a hands-on Chemical Engineer who enjoys solving complex process challenges, optimizing manufacturing performance, and supporting both day-to-day operations and long-term improvement initiatives.

What You’ll Do

As the Process Engineer, you will provide engineering support for assigned refinery process units. You will work collaboratively with Operations to improve safety, reliability, production, and cost performance.

You will:

  • Monitor and optimize refinery process unit performance to improve safety, quality, production, and operating efficiency.
  • Identify process improvements that enhance reliability, increase yields, reduce operating costs, and eliminate production constraints.
  • Provide day-to-day technical support to refinery Operations and Maintenance teams.
  • Troubleshoot process issues and provide engineering solutions during routine operations and unplanned events.
  • Support refinery turnarounds, maintenance activities, process startups, and shutdowns.
  • Evaluate process and equipment modifications through the Management of Change (MOC) process.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives that improve plant performance and operational excellence.
  • Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Projects, and other internal stakeholders to identify opportunities for process improvements.
  • Provide technical support during emergency response situations as required.
What We’re Looking For

We are seeking a hands-on Process Engineer who enjoys working both in the field and in the office while supporting refinery operations. You are analytical, collaborative, and thrive in fast-paced manufacturing environments where safety, reliability, and continuous improvement are top priorities.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering preferred (or equivalent STEM degree with relevant refinery experience).
  • Minimum of 3+ years of refinery process engineering experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of refinery process operations and process optimization.
  • Experience troubleshooting manufacturing or refinery processes.
  • Knowledge of process safety principles and Management of Change (MOC).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Active TWIC Card or the ability to obtain one.

This role combines office-based engineering work with regular field support throughout the refinery.

Candidates should be comfortable:

  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Climbing ladders and stairs.
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Supporting planned shutdowns, maintenance outages, and emergency response activities when required.
  • Participating in an on-call rotation supporting refinery operations.
  • Competitive base salary ranging from $92,846 to $164,756 USD, depending on experience and qualifications.
