Job summary

Ford Motor Company is seeking a Process Engineer to join the CNC machining team. This hands-on role focuses on optimizing production with grinding, turning, milling, and related processes across CGI, forged steel, and aluminum components.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering or plant manufacturing.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • 8D and 5Why corrective action and problem-solving skills.
  • DMAIC and DMADV (DFSS) project methodology experience.
  • Knowledge of TQM and Kaizen methods.
  • FMEA, PPAP, and DOEs experience.
  • Validated experience with Visual Factory Management.
  • Ergonomic analysis knowledge and experience.
  • CNC/Machining experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily engineering support on the shop floor (60-70% time) to resolve production, quality, and maintenance challenges.
  • Identify and lead small-scale improvement projects to reduce downtime and improve quality metrics.
  • Use AutoCAD and 3D modeling software to design, modify, and manage drawings and layouts.
  • Leverage 3D printing for rapid prototyping and shop floor tooling solutions.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance to troubleshoot equipment failures and implement solutions.
  • Monitor process capability to identify waste and quality deviations.
  • Update process documentation including OIS and PFMEAs.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions on the line.
  • Work with Tooling Engineers to optimize tool life and performance.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing implementations across machining.

In this position...

The open position is for a Process Engineer within the CNC machining team. This role specializes in the 'hands‑on' management and optimization of the production environment. You will be instrumental in ensuring processes support the highest standards of precision and efficiency in the manufacturing of critical engine components. These processes include grinding, polishing, turning, honing, drilling, and milling, and involve materials such as Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI), Forged Steel, and Aluminum. You will collaborate closely with maintenance, quality, and production teams to troubleshoot issues, enhance machine uptime, and drive continuous improvements.

What you'll do...
  • Provide daily engineering support on the shop floor (60-70% of time) to resolve production, quality, and maintenance challenges.
  • Identify and lead small‑scale improvement projects focused on reducing downtime and improving Quality Metrics.
  • Utilize AutoCAD and 3D Modeling software to design, modify, and manage technical drawings and process layouts.
  • Leverage 3D printing capabilities for rapid prototyping, specialized tooling aids, and shop floor solutions.
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance team to troubleshoot equipment failures and implement technical solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Monitor and analyze process capability to identify and eliminate waste or quality deviations.
  • Update and maintain process documentation, including OIS (Operation Instruction Sheets) and PFMEAs.
  • Lead root‑cause analysis for quality concerns and implement corrective actions on the line.
  • Work with Tooling Engineers to ensure process changes are optimized for tool life and performance.
  • Support the implementation of Lean Manufacturing principles across the machining department.
You’ll have...
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 5 or more years of experience in engineering or plant manufacturing.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Familiarity with DMAIC and DMADV (DFSS) Project Methodology experience.

This position is a salary grade 6 and ranges from $72,480-$121,440.

This position is a salary grade 7 and ranges from $84,480-$141,360.

This position is a salary grade 8 and ranges from $96,720-$162,120.
