Job summary

Ford is seeking a Manufacturing Process Engineer to advance the 8F/10R Gear Machining Lines at Livonia Transmission Plant. The role is onsite and full-time, with most work in Livonia and periodic assignments across SE Michigan and Lima, OH.

You will develop lean, flexible systems and collaborate with OEMs, suppliers and cross-functional teams to optimize throughput, quality and cost. A BS in engineering and 3+ years of experience are required, with GD&T and Six Sigma familiarity enhancing

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Industrial, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • 3+ years of engineering and manufacturing experience.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T; reading engineering drawings.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a cross-functional team.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing Principles and Six Sigma.
  • Proven record of customer focused work.

Responsibilities

  • Support development and implementation of gears and round parts manufacturing systems for new powertrain programs in Michigan.
  • Use machining process knowledge to deliver quality, cost-efficient, timely processes.
  • Support equipment installation, power on, run capability, and handover to plants.
  • Initiate bids, evaluate, and recap bids for equipment; work with Purchasing to place orders.
  • Collaborate with OEMs, suppliers, Product, and Plant engineering to resolve issues.
  • Coordinate facilities, safety, ergonomics, material handling, tooling and gauging items.
  • Support discrete event simulation for constraint analysis with IE to improve throughput.
  • Travel up to 50% for projects with OEMs and suppliers.

This position provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to the manufacture of transmissions at Ford’s Livonia Transmission Plant. You will work to deliver lean, flexible and competitive manufacturing systems that power our winning portfolio of Ford Tough trucks and SUVs.

We are seeking a passionate, detailed, inquisitive engineer to join our team as a Manufacturing Process Engineer working on the 8F / 10R Gear Machining Lines. This will be an onsite, full-time position. Majority of time will be spent in Livonia, but will also include work in SE Michigan and Lima, Cleveland, OH.

What you'll do...
  • Support development and implementation of Gears and related Round Parts manufacturing systems for new powertrain programs in Michigan.
  • Utilize machining process knowledge, particularly steel and iron metal cutting and grinding to deliver an efficient and optimized process regarding quality, costs, timing, and footprint.
  • Support equipment installation, power on, run capability, and equipment handover to the powertrain plants.
  • Initiate bids, evaluate, recap bids for equipment purchase; work with Purchasing to write and place orders.
  • Work with OEMs, suppliers, Product, and Plant engineering teams to resolve engineering and program delivery issues.
  • Interface and coordinate project related items such as facilities, safety, ergonomics, material handling & kitting, tooling, and gauging.
  • Support discrete event simulation for constraint analysis; work with Industrial Engineers (IE) to assess and improve throughput.
  • Travel up to 50% in support of assigned projects in collaboration with OEMs, Tooling, Gauging, and related equipment suppliers.
You’ll have...
  • Bachelor of Science in Industrial, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • 3+ years of engineering and manufacturing experience
  • Working knowledge of GD&T; reading engineering drawings
  • Strong communication skills along with the ability to work in a cross functional team
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to handle complex projects with multiple objectives
  • Familiarity of Lean Manufacturing Principles and Six Sigma
  • Proven record of customer focused work

This position is a salary grade 6-8 and ranges from $74,300-$166,200.,

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope responsibility and competitive market value.
