RPI Lumber is seeking a motivated and hands‑on Process Engineer to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving complex manufacturing challenges, leading continuous improvement initiatives, and making a direct impact on product quality, operational efficiency, and business performance.

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment, enjoys working cross‑functionally with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Production teams, and is passionate about driving meaningful improvements through data, innovation, and Lean methodologies.

What You'll Do

As a Process Engineer, you will play a critical role in optimizing manufacturing processes, supporting product development, improving quality, and leading continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with Operations to identify and implement safety improvements.

  • Collaborate with Quality to develop and implement tools and processes that reduce scrap and customer defects.

  • Work directly with Supply Chain to evaluate and qualify alternative material streams.

  • Analyze and improve Bills of Materials (BOMs), manufacturing processes, and equipment performance.

  • Drive cost reduction initiatives through process optimization, material utilization improvements, and waste reduction.

  • Develop and maintain clear, effective process documentation and work instructions.

  • Provide technical support to manufacturing teams to improve quality, throughput, and yield.

  • Lead Lean Manufacturing initiatives including:

    • 5S

    • Standard Work

    • Value Stream Mapping (VSM)

    • Kaizen Events

    • Structured Problem Solving

  • Support the planning and execution of capital improvement projects.

  • Manage projects from concept through implementation, ensuring timelines and objectives are met.

  • Participate in new product development and material qualification efforts.

  • Perform additional duties as needed to support business objectives.

What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in:

    • Industrial Engineering

    • Mechanical Engineering

    • Manufacturing Engineering

    • Or a related engineering discipline

  • 1–2+ years of manufacturing or industrial engineering experience

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills

  • Excellent project management and organizational abilities

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic manufacturing environment

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel

  • Experience utilizing data analysis and statistical tools to drive improvements

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in plastics, extrusion, or related manufacturing environments

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies

  • Experience leading Kaizen events or process improvement projects

  • Familiarity with quality systems and reliability analysis

Work Environment

This position requires time both in an office setting and on the manufacturing floor. The role involves working closely with production processes, equipment, and cross‑functional teams.

Physical requirements include:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

  • Standing, walking, climbing, bending, and reaching as needed

  • Frequent use of computers and other office equipment

  • Ability to visually inspect products for quality standards

  • Use of required PPE while on the production floor
