Our client is an industrial technology company turning end-of-life magnets into a domestic source of critical materials, cutting the country's reliance on overseas supply. It's early-stage, well‑funded work with real strategic weight behind it.
Their first plant is coming online now, and the plan is to replicate it across the country. They're looking for a Process Engineer to be the go‑to process voice on site, helping commission a first‑of‑its‑kind hydrometallurgical circuit, set the operating standards, and make it run better every day. If you like seeing your process decisions show up in real recovery numbers, and want a hand in shaping the plants that come after this one, this is worth a look.
What You'll Do
Plant Performance and Optimization
- Monitor plant performance, tracking recovery, impurity carryover, reagent consumption, and throughput.
- Run process optimization studies and turn the findings into practical changes on the floor.
- Develop operating procedures, setpoints, and control strategies, and update them as feedstock and product requirements change.
- Maintain process models (METSIM, SysCAD, or HSC), and use plant and lab data to set targets and report results.
Commissioning and Troubleshooting:
- Support commissioning, startup, and ramp‑up of new equipment and circuits.
- Lead or join root cause failure analyses for process and equipment problems, and see corrective and preventive actions through.
- Evaluate equipment performance, materials of construction, and compatibility with maintenance and operations.
Planning and Budgets
- Prepare CAPEX and OPEX budgets for the process side of the plant.
- Bring lessons from this plant forward into the design and startup of future sites.
Safety and Operator Development
- Take part in HAZOP, HAZID, and management‑of‑change reviews.
- Help keep chemical handling, waste, and effluent practices safe and compliant.
- Coach operators on process fundamentals and the reasoning behind setpoints and procedures.
What You Bring
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a closely related discipline. A Chemistry degree paired with strong process experience will also be considered.
Experience
- 3+ years of process engineering experience in hydrometallurgy, chemical processing, mineral processing, or metals recycling.
- Experience working in or alongside an operating plant, including troubleshooting with operators and maintenance.
- Safe chemical handling experience and familiarity with process safety reviews such as HAZOP.
- Comfortable being the senior process voice on site and driving work without close oversight.
Key Skills
- Working knowledge of hydromet unit operations.
- Strong grounding in solution chemistry, mass and energy balances, and reaction and separation fundamentals.
- Clear written and verbal communication, with the judgment to work independently in a fast‑moving operation.
Additional Requirements
- This is an on‑site, full‑time role at the plant, with time in the plant and lab wearing PPE around process chemicals.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States on a full‑time basis. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship, now or in the future.
- Pre‑employment background check and drug screen.
Why Join
- Health, dental, and vision coverage, plus a 401(k) with a company match that's 100% vested from day one.
- A ground‑floor seat at a well‑funded company solving a real supply chain problem.
- Room to grow as the company replicates its plant in new markets.
